Game Thread THE GAME: #1 Ohio State 42, #2 Michigan 39 (11/18/06)

i gotta say, while i was cheering for the Blue against ND (or rather, cheering AGAINST the Irish), at some point in the beatdown i started getting a little nervous. we were FAR better than TSUN last year, and although we helped them a great deal, that game was nearly too close for comfort. TSUN definitely has a new attitude this year, and Carr looks as loose as i can remember... something tells me that this one is gonna be for all the marbles... fuck the National Championship game on Jan 8... the National Championship will be won on 11/18.

GO BUCKS! BEAT M*CH*G*N!!!

This game just got a whole lot bigger...like it could get any bigger. Michigan has an easy schedule the rest of the way until they get to Columbus...if we are indeed the #1 team in the country we might just have to prove it against an undefeated Michigan team on November 18th. This about this...Ohio State has a chance to do something that i'm not sure any team has ever done (may want to check records or something)...to be #1 and play against #2 three times in a season and win all three.

#2 Texas, #2 Michigan and then #2 National Champion runner up

I'm sure a lot say that Michigan will find a way to lose along the way...and maybe they will, but they should be heavy favorites in the rest of their games...along with the Buckeyes. GO BUCKS!!!!

In an earlier post I said that both teams could go into THE GAME 11-0 and I'm still liking the chances. Ohio has Iowa(A), PSU(H) and MSU(A) for their "competitive" games(lets face it, IU, UofI,NU,BGST and Minnesota stink) and M!ch!g@n has Iowa(H),MSU(H) and PSU(A)(replace BGST with Ball State on the M!ch!g@n schedule). Why can't they both go 11-0? Iowa almost lost to syracuse and you have to think Drew Tate is still not at 100% , We will see how good MSU is against ND but you have to think their not Ohio State/M!ch!g@n good and PSU got destroyed by ND. It might be wishful thinking but all signs point to a absolutely huge game in Columbus on Nov 18 where both teams can go in undefeated for the first time since the early '70s(I think)

I posted the verification for this in another thread. Only 3 teams have been #1 and beaten #2 twice in the same season (using AP rankings only):

'43 ND, '45 Army, and '71 Nebraska

Also, 1963 Texas was #2 when they knocked off #1 Oklahoma and then were #1 when they beat #2 Navy in the Cotton Bowl.

Only 3 other teams have been involved in a pair of #1 vs #2 games in the same year: '86 Miami, '87 Oklahoma, '93 FSU - they each split those games.

I still am concerned about Hart vs our run D... however that worry is countered by glaring flaws in UM's pass coverage. Morgan Trent is hurt, and it's clear they don't have a #2 corner. We might struggle to stop hart at times, but they've got to be concerned about how they'll stay with our WRs.

Agree with all of the above. These two factors may determine the outcome. If the Bucks can exploit UM's secondary, and score TD's early, the effectiveness of Hart, and that damn UM play-action to the TE, will be diminished. I know, I know, it's early, but #1 vs. #2 in the Shoe, on November 18? A game for the ages....

In line for tix to the Penn State game...guys were pretty much in agreement that tix for an undefeated Ohio State against an undefeated team from up north would fetch prices above the roughly 550 that Texas '05 was getting.

Would this be the hottest ticket in Columbus history? I think so. Then again, I'm not sure that Michigan will hold up their end of the bargain. I actually hope they do win out, now that they have avoided any early season mis-step.

I concur, a #1 OSU vs #2 UM has never happened. The entire state won't function for a good two weeks, maybe longer. I wouldn?t be surprised if the single game ticket prices are $700+. If both teams remain undefeated, hold the top two spots in the polls, the build up, anticipation of this game will far exceed any in the series to date. Couple that with how the game plays out and we could witness the greatest game ever to grace the rivalry.

One of the nice things about this game now, is that because of the strength of the schedule up until the UM game, Tressel and Co. can probably afford to look ahead a little bit and start gameplanning harder than UM can afford to... seeing as they still have to get past Iowa and a tough night road game at Penn St.. Not that Tressel would ever admit to looking ahead, but you know...
