I still get emotional when I come home from work or whatever from not hearing the nails dancing on the other side of the door on the floor tile. There's something about opening the door and seeing a happy dog bouncing and spinning at your arrival.I could have bought a decent used car with what I paid in vet bills last 12 months...
Two needed dentals.. those are like a million bucks.. same with an MRI
How did I end up with 2 out of the 5 that have allergies so obviously specialized food only avail thru the vet's office...
No grandchildren yet so I guess these are my grandkids
The Collie rescue that came from a desperation vet call 2 yrs ago has had bills well over $7500 from owner neglect... vet covered vast majority
so those don't show up on my statement... He's an excellent dog now but I believe his level of neglect will not give him a full life expectancy
Two are only 2 so decent chance these are the last critters of my time
I had zero input or say so on any of these 5 nor the 6 before them (married 44 years).. One we lost 4 years ago still hurts..
I would like to adopt this piece of shit and put him down.I adopt pit bulls on Craigslist and put them down—and you should too (+3 more solutions to the pit crisis)
[Ed.: Wow, the following piece has ignited quite the debate on the internet! Youtube creator and pit bull advocate Vee has answered the call to pen the counterargument. Please read his piece "33...wauf.com
Catahoula?
If we have 23andMe.. then there's gotta be tests to give ya the DNA scorecard
Had something similar happen to us. I came home from work one evening and a pit bull still attached to a chain was in our driveway. We brought him in our house, he did fine with our labs and had the velcro mentality of clinging to my kids. Eventually a family we knew took him and made him their family pet, where he did great with their infant twins.Years back a big Rhodesian Ridgeback was in our yard in Akron on Dec 31 and it was almost zero.. family had tickets to a New Years event
Pup was in dire condition... oldest was probably 12 and demanded we get him.. which we did, missed the event and spent weeks getting him healthy.. severe pneumonia... he'd never have made it thru the night.. vet bills; he had a friend but it was very skittish and took off.. this fella was almost dead so we were able to snatch him.. He had been wondering a while.. malnourished..
We started to search for the owner...
A Ridgeback breeder responded to give us advice.. on his health & the search.. She warned us to be very careful fielding calls by 'owners'
Warned us we will get barraged with calls saying that's my dog.. with the sole intent on using this large dog as dog fighting fodder
Gave us tips.. ask the 'owner' what color is the collar? the dog didn't have a collar.. perfect she said
ask which leg has a white patch.. the dog didn't have a patch.. perfect she said
things that only the true owner would know and things a deviant would bullshit their way thru.. and belligerently and almost violently
We were barraged with calls.. and all MALES were full of shit and mean
Didn't find the owner so after a month or so we switched to finding him a home.. at the time we only had small pups and this monster almost made them pee themselves.. pup started to really attach to the wife... and became very protective.. we literally packed 15 pounds on his emaciated body.. he was a gorgeous big fella
Fella came to inquire about the pup.. approached my wife.. and pup was not having it.. we thought.. dammit.. not going to work
The man surprised us.. and said.. 'no, I like that.. I have a wife and young daughter.. I want a protector"
He spent an hour plus and the two really got along... so he took him.. called 2 hours later.. he stopped at a pet store.. bought all the supplies, big dog bed, collar, leash, food, treats, toys
He called a week later and said dog never slept in the new bed he bought.. 6 yr old daughter made him jump onto her bed and the two slept together every day since.. He asked if we wanted to come visit.. lived toward Cleveland.. Wanted to go visit but we spoke to the breeder again.. she advised not to.. said you don't want to confuse the pup.. He's developing his bonds with his new family
We did a DNA test on our most recent rescue. My wife was convinced it was a Belgian Malinois. Results came back 100% German Shepherd. If we have 23andMe.. then there's gotta be tests to give ya the DNA scorecard
