I have a very eery feeling that by the end of this weekend, we're going to have another critter... a 10+ yr old sheltie... whose owners have ... mother (died) and now, the father was just put in a home with Alzheimers...
a 10 yr old dog in a shelter is a gonner.. I knew I married a pet lover.. what I grew to learn is that she is going to save the entire animal kingdom...

Well, he's here... he's OK (actually a nice dog) but I find myself not wanting to get too attached to a pup that most likely only has 2 yrs left... He's skittish.. not been around other animals... so he hasn't met my monster male collie... and next week my son's MONSTER Shepard will be here for two weeks while his girls BB team travels around VA.. meanwhile my female collie is acting much better physically but at times, flat-out doggie-Alzheimers, literally... last night was rough.. onward thru the fog

I lost my female collie almost 3 weeks ago and it hurts as much as I thought it would... I could get over it a bit easier if my 10 yr old monster male collie wasn't in such a deep depression... he's a mess... wouldn't get off my female's bed for a week and a half... he mopes.. he's lethargic.. doesn't respond to being called... in his 10+ years, the two of them have not been apart for more than one day twice in his life... it's pathetic

Then there's the new sheltie we're fostering... I know he's sad too... his owner is now in a home with alzheimers.. and I feel shitty that I don't want to bond with this one.. because he's old.. and I'm hoping another family member comes for him... I'm nice to him.. he's being very well taken care of... but he wants to bond and I'm not going there

Had to put our 13 year old Beagle down this morning. We've had him since he was 8 weeks old. He was having congestive heart failure and had a stroke yesterday and couldn't walk. I sat with him during the procedure.

RIP Arnold
I'm sorry for your loss, last dog we put down, I just couldn't stay with him. Hats off to you, as much as I wanted to it was far too emotional. God bless him.

The last dog I had lived 19 years, 18 of them in damn near perfect health. Put her down probably a month or two later than I should've but it's easy to say in retrospect. Hurt like hell to do it. Part of me would like another one but another part doesn't want to ever have to do that again.
