Taking my yellow lab to the vet tomorrow morning to get her checked out. She's 13 years old. I just had her in for a checkup two months ago and they said she was in perfect health. Over the weekend I noticed her really struggling to be able to get up from a lying down position. Once up, she's not walking well and really struggles to get up the two steps on the back porch to get inside the house. She also isn't eating her food, but ate some cheese out of my hand this morning.

We have four kids and three dogs. Since we've had our kids, the dogs have obviously taken a back seat in the attention department, and I'll be honest when I say the dogs are sometimes annoying to be underfoot..........

But I'll be damned if I didn't well up this morning when this dog I've had for 13 years was eating cheese out of my hand in some obvious discomfort. Not sure what the vet will say tomorrow, but I certainly don't want her to be in pain.

Sucks.

Wife works at town vet (she's not a vet)
Years ago, the practice owner was getting numerous requests for an acupuncturist vet.. all of us were convinced this was quackery.. but she hired one...
After watching numerous dogs that the vets couldn't help any more go thru the acupuncture treatments.. we were very surprised
so when our 12 year old started having struggles getting around and especially steps, we resorted to the acupuncturist...
AMAZING results... pup would bounce up and down the steps.. had to do it every 6-10 weeks but definitely added to his quality of life

@WolverineMike , try giving her rice and ground beef..

So we finally have capitulated on the dog issue in our house. We settled on a few different breeds and will be waiting for the right dog in need of rescue. The breeds we're considering are boxer, American bull and bullmastiff.

We hosted a friend's bullmastiff a couple of weekends ago to see how that size dog would work in our world. The dog was an absolute dream. Very well behaved and super sweet.

Even though he's around 110 lbs he has a bit more to go... and that may be just a bit much. We really don't want to fence in the yard and a dog weighing that much laughs at invisible fences.

Either way, he was a lot of fun and my youngest clearly enjoyed his time. image.jpg
