The 2020 College Football Season

If the powers that be don't disclose specific milestones that need to be met in order to play spring ball, they all need to be fired. You can't play this game of having no transparency AND no accountability. I want to know what specific milestones need to happen and how are they tracking/working toward those items.
Apparently they make too much money to give zero fucks what anyone one thinks (I guess this includes coaches and players) .....or so I’m told

I don't think they have any specific milestones. They went from "Here's the schedule" to "We're not playing" in less than a week.

I also don't believe they are serious about Spring football.

It's not going to happen. Ohio State will follow what the Big Ten says, that much is clear.

I do wonder what the long term ramifications are if/when Day gets shut down. I'd imagine he'll be moving on at some point if it gets heated enough.

Exactly. If GS and Day think they're the loudest voices in the room on this, I can't help that level of self-delusion. Like I said in another post, this is all Kabuki theater meant to send players and recruits the message that the coaches have their back and will fight for their interests to the end.

I hope that I'm right, and Day understands this and isn't under any impression that he can call the shot on this decision. And I hope that the administration has had their shit together and has clearly communicated certain things to Day, kept him in the loop and made him feel as though his opinion is valued even if it doesn't necessarily carry the day.

I don't think it'll happen, either. But I'd still like to see what Warren has to say about it because he wasted no time threatening Nebraska.

I think he'll keep his mouth shut. Hopefully, he's smart enough to realize that this is something that the coaches need to be doing right now. In the case of Corn, things were a bit different. You had the university administration unequivocally stating that they were looking for somewhere else to play this Fall. Nobody at Ohio State, tsun or ped is doing that; just the coaches blowing off steam.

And if Corn is really serious about this, fuck 'em. Send their dumb asses packing, and let's watch them show up in Austin with a bouquet of flowers in their hand and a pair of knee pads strapped to their knees to beg for forgiveness from their Longhorn daddy.

If the other Power 5 conferences actually pull off a season the B1G will look even sillier. The silliness began when they released a schedule then flushed it 6 days later.

By pull off a season I mean with minimal interruptions due to Covid. The SEC would play a season even if 100 players & coaches died of Covid.

Bama could make a large move toward catching TTUN, and passing us, on the all-time wins list.

The numbers are debatable because of forfeits, vacated wins, etc., but Bama and tOSU have been gaining on TTUN for the last dozen years or so.

Also, do they award a Heisman if only about 50 teams play in the fall? Do they hold off in case somebody actually plays in early 2021?

This sucks so much ass all the way around.

If Bama gets to play this year while Ohio State does not, it won't be the wins from 2020 that I'm worried about.

They will surpass OSU easily over the next few years as the OSU program is eviscerated on the recruiting trail.

Exactly.

And as far as Day keeping everyone on the ship - there comes a point where to the extent that some of these kids have legitimate options that keeping them on board isn't quite fair.

There are no legitimate options though.. You aren't going to learn a new playbook in a week or two even if the NCAA allows them to play right away. If they cancelled in June this would be an option not now. So any transfers wouldn't be to play this season

This absolutely could break either way. If the SEC goes through with one to three games and then has to pack it in because of rampaging infections on teams and superspreader events among fans, the B1G comes off as the voice of sanity. So whatever one's opinion of yesterday's decision, the best thing right now for the Ohio State program and the B1G right now is for everyone else to be forced into a cancellation, and that's what I'm rooting for.

Agreed. Time will tell whether or not this was a good decision or a bad one. But, I will say, it was a decision that did NOT need to be made yesterday.
