The 2020 College Football Season

Maybe I missed it, I haven't read all the posts in the thread, but is there a legit reason the decision needed to be made this week? Even if you're going to cancel isn't the PR better if you make an announcement along the lines of "We're going to do everything we can for the next 2-3 weeks to make this season happen, but the medical information we have makes a fall season a long shot." And then, you know, provide the medical information they're looking at.

This absolutely could break either way. If the SEC goes through with one to three games and then has to pack it in because of rampaging infections on teams and superspreader events among fans, the B1G comes off as the voice of sanity. So whatever one's opinion of yesterday's decision, the best thing right now for the Ohio State program and the B1G right now is for everyone else to be forced into a cancellation, and that's what I'm rooting for.

This.

If the SEC and company pull off a full successful season then OSU and the B1G are going to look like the biggest bunch of pussies god ever let through the door. This golden era of OSU football is over. You'll not only lose recruits and players you will lose coaches.

OTOH, if the others fail at all then its something from no effect to a win for OSU.

Stakes are high and the science says you can have football if you can keep them from getting COVID somewhere else (like on campus).

I personally don't like our chances but the time to worry is before you place the bet, not after they spin the wheel. Let's see how it goes.

If Bama gets to play this year while Ohio State does not, it won't be the wins from 2020 that I'm worried about.

They will surpass OSU easily over the next few years as the OSU program is eviscerated on the recruiting trail.

More likely than not, especially with the SECSPN hype machine, but not certain. The future's cloudy. While COVID's highly unlikely to kill young athletic men, although there appear to be very rare exceptions to that based on individual biological variances that we don't fully understand yet, suppose the southern schools play, a ton of players get COVID, and while none or only one or two die, more than a few elite prospects have just enough permanent respiratory impairment to prevent them from performing at the level needed to earn an NFL paycheck. The media then starts a plantation/exploitation narrative, there are lawsuits, and the BIG schools say to future recruits, come play for schools that give a shit about your long-term health, safety, and career prospects while Southern schools' recruiting is damaged for years

Agreed. Time will tell whether or not this was a good decision or a bad one. But, I will say, it was a decision that did NOT need to be made yesterday.

I definitely sensed a bit of the B1G wanting to "right side of history" show off and posit some moral superiority to the other conferences that didn't need to happen. I'm not saying that was the deciding factor, but I'm not so pro B1G that I don't recognize that it was part of the decision.

And if 70 year old Nick Saban has to be sacrificed upon this alter, well then.......

Or they just panicked and didn't want to look like they sold their souls to college football because of the MAC. One things for sure every school and the conference needs to hire people experienced in disaster management and not let the AD/President just call their own shots

Id expect some kind of infection outbreak before the season even starts for the SEC/ACC/Big 12

Theres over a month until then, all it takes is 1 kid going out to a party or something to comeback and infect his teammates.

Well, I think we all know that how goes the MAC so goes the rest of college football.

maybe but I'm more hopeful of a COVID cure on Friday than the sports media ever going after Dabo or the SEC.

NFL will move draft if college football is canceled.

Flies directly against a previous random Twitter source that claims CFB made discreet inquiries to the NFL about moving the draft in case they needed to have spring football and got an equally discreet "fuck off" in response.

I get the free minor leagues logic and all but something tells me NFL egos are what matters most.

So we're back to nobody knows what they are going to do till they do it?
