For the record, bureaucratic inertia says there isn't a chance in hell they ever reconsider their decision, but if all of this pressure forces something like a change at the top OR transparency at an unprecedented level, I'm all for it.

I honestly don't think players and parents complaining is real "pressure." Governors, state legislatures, corporate leaders in the respective states and home cities of the schools could bring real pressure to bear. Mr. Wade's actions have all the markings of Franco Harris flying around to university Presidents' offices demanding that JoePed be exonerated. I think it will have about as much effect.

I tend to agree with @ORD_Buckeye here but the social media pressure has made people do some dumb shit over the years, let's see.

Not getting any hopes up.

Not to mention that even if the decision is reversed an outbreak in the locker rooms could quickly bring it to a halt. I don't have my hopes for anything this year, but I'd like to at least try.

Let the players/coaches who want to opt out do so without consequence. Let the ones who want to play try.

I have a sincere question - would Delaney have handled it better?
My distant impression of him was "my word is the law" type leadership - am I mistaken?

Depends on what your sliding scale looks like, but I view the present shit show as a 0 on the a 10 scale. Therefore, I believe that, yes, Delaney would have handled it better, but I don't know to what degree better.

“Transparency is the foundation of legitimacy. Without it, you can expect people to question your motives and question whether you made a good decision."

How did the B1G go from the best conference commissioner (maybe of all time) to one of the worst?

Anybody else miss him?

Yes, he would have handled it better. Mostly because it'd be hard to handle it worse, in my opinion. You've got parents and players essentially in open revolt, with programs like Ohio State and Nebraska toeing the line but still pushing.

The real problem here, in my opinion, isn't ultimately the decision not to play. it's the timing along with the lack of communication and transparency about how and why the decision was made and what to do next. Warren has been in hiding for a week. Add that his son is playing at Mississippi State and making him look like a massive hypocrite. Delaney had his failings, but I believe he would have been better at keeping everyone in line and communicating the decision to everyone.

Is there really that much of a lack of communication between the Administrations of 14 schools and their respective Athletic Departments? When you have ADs from some schools, and coaching staffs saying that they don't even know how this decision was arrived at, something doesn't make sense. You would think somebody from at least ONE school would say what exactly happened. Is the disconnect really that bad, or is everyone just toeing the company line and staying tight lipped? Something just doesn't smell right here.

Plus Delaney had more power from longevity. He could influence the decision to an extent while I believe Warren pretty much probably got handed the decision whether he agreed with it or not.

This was always the real stunning thing (at least from the SEC blogs I read).
Most folks don't understand why you didn't just delay as long as possible or push back the start date. You don't have to start on Labor day.

Our league is probably going to have to cancel the season, but we're going to give it to the absolute last second before doing so. I am still flabbergasted you guys called it in the second week of August.
