The 2020 College Football Season

reading the NCAA guidelines for all fall sports; there is no fucking way.

Anyone gets this newer, more contagious but less deadly, version and you lose them and anyone associated with them for 2 weeks. It's impossible.

I'd just make sure there was a 2 week window and make tsun show up in Columbus for The Game no matter what. 1's v 1's. No excuses. No cuntery.

Come take your beating then fuck right off.

Exclusive: Power 5 Conferences to Release Universal, Minimum COVID-19 Testing Standards for Fall Sports

College football players who test positive for COVID-19 this fall will be required to miss at least 10 days of competition, and that number is even higher—a full two weeks—for those who are found to have had contact with a person who tested positive.

These requirements are part of a medical document the Power 5 conferences have drafted to add uniformity to virus testing protocols and response procedures. Sports Illustrated obtained a copy of a draft of the document from July 8. The document is not finalized, but is expected to be released soon by the Power 5 and the NCAA, which are working in concert to create universal, minimum testing standards.

The six-page document outlines weekly in-season testing requirements, response protocols for positive tests, contact-tracing plans and considerations for game cancellations. “This document is meant to guide institutions in the minimum necessary requirements needed to participate in athletics in the coming year,” the document reads.

College teams will be required to test football players within 72 hours of games using the standard PCR test. Game officials in football and basketball should also be tested weekly, because of their close contact with athletes, the document says. The document, however, does not require tests for coaches, though staff members must wear a mask on the sideline if they are not tested in the same way athletes are. As for other high-risk sports, athletes should be tested within 72 hours of the first game of a week’s set of games.

If they are going to try it this way then they should waive redshirt restrictions for this season.

you’ll likely end up playing everyone on scholarship and playing them a lot. Football doesn’t stop requiring depth for injury or fatigue. That will be exacerbated if you have your entire first team out for 2 weeks.

I still think it’s unworkable but no burned redshirts seems like a reasonable attempt.

All this abortion of a season is gonna do is waste a year of eligibility. Every day that passes I hope more and more they just shitcan this upcoming season. Games without fans, limited fans in stifling masks, no TBDBITL... TO HELL WITH IT! It’s not worth it.

Every day that passes where the season doesn't get cancelled I take a baby step of optimism.

That's where I'm at. I'm withholding a healthy amount of optimism because of the reasons @Jaxbuck has stated. I understand it's not going to be the same this season, but I'd rather have a season with no or limited fan attendance, masks, etc. than no season at all. Had a dream the other night that Justin Fields was slinging it in the Shoe with no fans in the stands... obviously not ideal, but I would still be excited for it.

As one who remembers watching freshman games in the shoe with just a scattering of fans, I sure as hell hope they leave the parabolic mics back in the truck. The sounds of college football get muffled by the fans. Still, I remember the sound of Russ Bauermaster’s leg Breaking - a boom that silenced 90,000 - during The Game. Also recall a crack back block During a frosh game by a Buckeye D back on an interception run back. He caught an Indiana receiver running full tilt and looking the other way. The sound reverberated around the shoe and the IU player was still out cold when they put him in the ambulance. Also recall a loud noise when the Penn State kid suffered a broken back/neck.

The Big Ten made a bold move two weeks ago when it canceled non-conference competition for all fall sports, including the 2020 football season, as a result of the coronavirus pandemic.

At the time, it felt like the first of many dominoes to fall for this year's college football season. That notion was reinforced when the Pac-12 followed suit one day later and also canceled non-conference games for its fall sports.

With the Big Ten and Pac-12 making that move, it put pressure on the remaining Power 5 conferences to do the same. But as of this writing, the ACC, Big 12 and SEC are still planning to play non-conference games.

Alabama, which was scheduled to open its 2020 season against USC at AT&T Stadium in Dallas, is now searching for a replacement since the Pac-12 banned non-league play.

“The opportunities will be there,” SEC commissioner Greg Sankey said when the cancellations were announced. “We’re not alone in having lost non-conference games because of other conference decisions, and so, all of these football programs that have lost opportunities are now looking for games, as well.”

And just yesterday, University of Texas athletic director Chris Del Conte made his intentions to play a full schedule very clear.

B1G and Pac 12 should change their mind, if the other 3 P5 conferences are planning on doing a full schedule no reason they can't. I mean hell, Nebraska is playing Rutgers this year, that's 1300 miles right there.

Or at least do an 11-12 game conference season.

Although travel was not in the top 2 reasons that they went to a B1G-only schedule (and probably not in the top 3), I would be astonished if the UNL-Rutgers game was on the conference schedule that will be unveiled in the coming days. I strongly suspect it will be a complete reboot, not just an elimination of non-B1G games and the addition of one conference game for each team.

Interesting. The site map of the three conferences calling for full schedules is awash in COVID red just five weeks prior to kickoff. Here at fill-in-the-blank, we put our student athlete's safety first...

If the Bucks go through the Big Ten season and come out with no more than 1 loss they'll be in the running for a playoff slot. The SEC champ, the ACC champ the Big Ten Champ, and the Big 12 will be the final four. Reason? TV rankings. Clemson will have to beat ND twice. Okie will have to beat Texas CCG, The Bucks will have to beat Wisconsin in the CCG.
