Thad Matta (OSU's All Time Winningest Coach & 3x B1G COY, Butler HC)

my advice to ohio state: rip up matta's contract and rewrite one that guarantees him the same amount of money that tressel receives.

I think Gene Smith should tell him that tOSU will do that after KY hires a coach, telling him that tOSU will pay him at least as much as Indiana or Kentucky ever pays their basketball coaches.

thad will be on at halftime of the unc/gtown game.

matta to conley in first practice: "you go until i tell you to stop." i've never gotten the sense that matta wants to pull the reins on his players' abilities. that's why he recruits top-level players.

If we make it through December
Everything's gonna be all right I know
...
If we make it through December we'll be fine

Thad Matta came to appreciate the lyrical ability of Merle Haggard over the winter, because Matta and Merle shared something in common - they both couldn't wait to see the new year. Ol' Merle was singing about the weather; Matta had much more important things on his mind.

From the above:

Butler was being kicked out of his comfort zone at point guard and forced to adapt to shooting guard. Better yet, he had to relinquish his spot to a freshman.
Butler hardly sounds upset about it.
"As soon as they arrived here in the summer, we bonded and clicked," said Butler, referring to all the freshmen. "It's the closest-knit team I've ever played on."

No prima donnas. Talented, unselfish kids -- my favorite thing about this team, and the reason why OSU Mens Basketball is staging a renaissance not seen since Williams, if not even back to the days of Taylor. Thank you, Matta!

He is much too superstitious to ever walk under a ladder, but Thad Matta has no trouble climbing on top of one. And he's getting pretty good at it, too.

Matta has now cut down nets three times in the last month, officially making him an expert of how to swing a net to get the loudest reaction out of cheering fans. He is beloved in Columbus -- not quite to the extent of the sweater vest, but if he figures out how to beat Florida for a national championship Monday night, he'll know something Jim Tressel doesn't -- and the popularity gap will narrow tremendously.

CULLOWHEE ? One of the first times that Orlando Early realized just how serious Thad Matta was about the coaching business came when Matta chose an odd destination during a recruiting trip.
The two Western Carolina men?s basketball assistants weren?t driving to see prized prospect Bobby Phillips, then a star player at a junior college out West.
