Texas...Your new number one in the BCS..

The ACC isn't what it used to be, its at least as tough as the big ten in the top 3-4 teams, and they have to play a championship game too.

USC or Tejas is a toss up for #1 right now. IMO the horns are a better team, but it's hard to put a two time champion at #2 while they're on a 20+ game win streak. Deosn't mean shit though as long as you're in the Rose Bowl. I have a feeling we're headed for another BCS train wreck at the end of the season. Somebody's gonna be 11-0 or 12-0 and watching the NC game from the sidelines.

I agree, the ACC is nothing like it used to be..

But as far as the whole 11-0 or 12-0 chat and not being in the NC...the 2 best teams will be in the NC this year..Yes there may be a team or 3 that is still undefeated at the end of the year (i.e. Bama/Georgia/VT), but IMO Texas vs USC (bearing they both win out) should be the NC game..

Steve, yes that was sarcasm. :)

Dryden,
I mentioned in another thread that the issue Notre Dame is facing is margin of victory. While eliminating MoV from the computer polls disuades coaches from running up the score, the opposite effect is that a computer can't discern how 'close' a loss is. Without MoV, the computer polls don't know that OSU lost to Texas by a mere 3 points in the closing minutes of the game, or that ND took USC to the final play, or MSU into overtime. As far as computers are concerned, both teams are 5-2, which makes them equivilent to any other 5-2 team like Texas A&M or Rutgers. Without MoV, the only thing the computers have to discern teams with similar records from one-another are measures such as strength of schedule (opponents' opponents W-L records).

You are absolutely right. The computers might be underrating them a little bit. But I still say the human voters are overrating them.

Take, well, Ohio State for example.
I'm sure this bias has been discussed plenty on this board, but I'll talk about it again because it pisses me off.

"Notre Dame lost to USC on the last play of the game! That means Notre Dame is really good!"

They forget that Ohio State lost to a team equally as good, on what might as well have been the last play of the game.

The other losses:
Notre Dame lost, AT HOME, to Michigan State, who is currently unranked and just got blown out by Northwestern.

Ohio State lost, ON THE ROAD, to Penn State, who is currently in the Top 10 and just blew out Illinois. In that game, Penn State had, what, 130 total yards? Furthermore, Ohio State beat the very same Michigan State team that beat Notre Dame.

If you go by the full body of work, and not selectively pick one game (like the voters seem to be doing), Ohio State > Notre Dame. I'd love to see those teams square off in the Fiesta Bowl to prove it.

OSU would destroy Notre Dame. The Irish haven't played a Defense even close to ours yet, and Tressel is at his best in the Bowl games.

As for the polls, I don't care. Notre Dame & Penn State will always be the apple in the eye of the pollsters. Always. Whenever either has a halfway decent team, the voters boost them up to legendary status.

The way I see it, we gave away the victory against Texas, and played below our capability in the Penn State game. So we don't deserve squat. I'm not going to sit here with two losses and argue that OSU deserves anything regarding the rankings.

young will not be in the nfl draft.

Not sure why he would leave.

He'd probably go as a Matt Jones type player. Get turned into a receiver because he's a freak of an athlete, but he's not an NFL QB, IMO.

As far as the BCS goes, the theory was put out there that USC could drop to 3 if everything goes to shit (like I'm hoping :yow1: ).

Notre Dame loses a couple. UCLA loses a couple before they play USC. Opponents winning percentage could screw USC, theoretically.

Well said. Some one should advise the national media of this...
