And the computers are the ones who have them so high. I know it was taken out of the BCS, but I can't imagine it was taken out of any computer ranking. What else do they have to go by? Record and.....?

Yeah the computers should love Texas. As long as Texas Tech wins out and we do that is two very impressive (in the eyes of the computers) victories over highly ranked computer teams.

Also what everyone is missing is the gap in the voters of the Coaches & Harris polls. They no long assign a point toal for being number 1, it is a percentage based on how close the vote really is. So the more #1 votes Texas gets they get closer and closer to USC.

The Bucks losses don't look real bad right now. A loss to the number one team in the nation by 3 and a loss to the number 9 team by 7?

Woulda, shoulda, coulda doesn't cut it here, I know, but looking back at both of those games tears me up sometimes!

I mentioned in another thread that the issue Notre Dame is facing is margin of victory. While eliminating MoV from the computer polls disuades coaches from running up the score, the opposite effect is that a computer can't discern how 'close' a loss is. Without MoV, the computer polls don't know that OSU lost to Texas by a mere 3 points in the closing minutes of the game, or that ND took USC to the final play, or MSU into overtime. As far as computers are concerned, both teams are 5-2, which makes them equivilent to any other 5-2 team like Texas A&M or Rutgers. Without MoV, the only thing the computers have to discern teams with similar records from one-another are measures such as strength of schedule (opponents' opponents W-L records).

Sagarin, for example, ranks OSU at #5 and ND at #7 by the 'true' formula which includes game score. In the BCS version of Sagarin's ratings, with MoV removed, OSU falls all the way to #16 and ND to #23.

This has to be a joke, right? Ohio State wouldn't beat WVU @ WVU? Sorry, but Ohio State would beat WVU by two touchdowns. Maybe we'll find out how good WVU is if they get that BIG LEAST automatic BCS bid.
