Texas Longhorns (big hat, no cattle; please don’t Horns Down us)

It's funny, the mid-to-late 2000s were largely dominated by Texas and USC. They'd even meet in one of the greatest championship games ever played in any sport. Both had been underachieving significantly from the mid-80s until 2002/2003. They'd ride high until 2009. Then Colt McCoy graduated and Pete Carroll skipped town before he got leveled by the NCAA. Both programs have been stuck in mediocrity since...

Just some quick facts:

UT 2004-2009 with Vince Young and Colt McCoy at QB:
69-9, 0.885, 5-1 Bowls, 6x Top 25, 5x Top Ten, 5x Top Five, 1 National Championship, Played for one other

UT 2010-2019 (post Young/McCoy):
68-55, 0.553, 3-2 Bowls, 2x Top 25, 1x Top Ten, 0x Top 5, Zero Championships of any kind.
That includes four losing seasons and three where they missed bowls.

UT 1984-2003 (20 years pre Young/McCoy)
151-86-3, 0.635, 5-8 Bowls, 10x Top 25, 2x Top Ten, 0x Top 5, 4 Conference Championships
That includes six .500 or worse seasons, and seven where they missed bowls.
Also, keep in mind, Oklahoma was down for a decade of that time pre-Bob Stoops.

Remove that six year window with a pair of great QBs from the last 35 years, and they're 219-141-3, 0.607...an average of (roughly) 8-5.
I hate to put words in your mouth, but it seems like you're saying:

"Texas is BACK!!! ... to its historical level of mediocrity."

That actually describes a number of programs(scUM, ND, Nebraska, Miami), there are only a few CFB programs that have actually been able to remain consistently successful through numerous decades. The thing is, each one of those fan bases of teams with limited success (yet major success at their time) consider that their team is one coach or one major win away from being "back". CFB will continue to be a haves and have nots now that were in the CFP era, even with expansion that we all know is coming, a majority of the talent is going to the same 4-5 teams, and the rest of ththe country gets the leftovers. We are fortunate to be Buckeye fans
Miami was shit for decades, enjoyed a brief, but spectacular burst in the 80a and again in late 90s to 2003 and then returned to shit despite playing in the ACC.

You have no idea. I mean, seriously.

You've spent enough time here with my online persona. Imagine how bad it is in real life.

Let's not forget that Texas' one national championship since the late 60s was predicated on two miraculous things. First, Ryan Hamby drops the easiest TD catch in the history of the fucking game. Then, Radio gets all sex nuts and retard strong and makes a simply miraculous TD run from 4th and whatever to clinch the NC. Take the first play away, and they're not even playing for a NC. Take the second away and they're simply the best loser that season.

There were also two fortunate non-turnovers in the 4th quarter of the USC game. VY fumbled and it bounced right so USC didn't get it when they were down by two scores; and near midfield on the last drive one of the USC brothers (Ting?) in the secondary dropped a pick.

But, at least they stopped USC from being the "greatest dynasty evah".

But Penn State probably is. So we can at least credit Texas for keeping the Pedsters out of the NC game in 2005.
