Texas Longhorns (big hat, no cattle; please don’t Horns Down us)

What makes them falling apart even more delicious, is Tom Herman was nearly universally seen as a homerun hire. Texas simply is a second-tier program that happened upon two generational talents at QB that led them to perform well above their historical mean during a very nice 5-6 year run. They're an 8-5/9-4 program.
All that is true, but there really isn’t a good reason that UT couldn’t be a powerhouse. With the in state talent and money they have, there ought to be a way to make the program shine.

Just some quick facts:

UT 2004-2009 with Vince Young and Colt McCoy at QB:
69-9, 0.885, 5-1 Bowls, 6x Top 25, 5x Top Ten, 5x Top Five, 1 National Championship, Played for one other

UT 2010-2019 (post Young/McCoy):
68-55, 0.553, 3-2 Bowls, 2x Top 25, 1x Top Ten, 0x Top 5, Zero Championships of any kind.
That includes four losing seasons and three where they missed bowls.

UT 1984-2003 (20 years pre Young/McCoy)
151-86-3, 0.635, 5-8 Bowls, 10x Top 25, 2x Top Ten, 0x Top 5, 4 Conference Championships
That includes six .500 or worse seasons, and seven where they missed bowls.
Also, keep in mind, Oklahoma was down for a decade of that time pre-Bob Stoops.

Remove that six year window with a pair of great QBs from the last 35 years, and they're 219-141-3, 0.607...an average of (roughly) 8-5.

There is...recruit all-timer QBs.

But, yea, I agree; they are at the top of the heap when it comes to underachieving CFB programs. It just seems there's too much internal dysfunction to overcome.
