I don't know much about the past, as my first year in Columbus was 2002.
Having said this, I can attest that there was a noticible difference as to the partying on lane between 2002 and 2003. 2002 was like, mega-crazy block party on the whole stretch of lane, for every game. 2003 was totally cracked down upon by the cops.
Here's the story I got in 2003 when I went to the Michigan State game. Apparently a girl a few weeks earlier got alcohol poisoning in one of the buses that parked in the alley behind the varsity club. The paramedics were called, but they could not get to the girl because of all the people and all the vehicles parked there. So they stopped allowing people to tailgate in those areas and really cracked down. The girl survived, but I guess they decided to crack down after that.

Damn, I remember cracking open a case of Natty at the corner of Lane & High before the 02 Texas Tech game. Didn't even make it down to Neil before we had the case finished. Picked up another case at 711 and proceeded to down them in the middle of Lane Ave. People would sell cans out of their cases to strangers in the middle of the street with the cops looking on laughing. those were the days.

I'd never set foot inside Old School without a bulletproof vest (or Mike Doss as my bodyguard).

can't wait for senior crawl next Thursday (finally graduating).

Seeing as I just got back from Four Kegs...that place is a quality establishment. Not 21? No problem! Liquid Dope night every Wednesdays!

They seriously have no reason to let people in who are under 21, but if it wasn't for that, they'd lose half their business. The cops across the street know exactly what's going on, yet they can't (or won't) do anything.

Also, Panini's is a great place as well. A while back Theta Tau was hosting a Drink 'n' Drown - all you can drink from 7:00 to 11:00 for $10. Fun times were had.

Weird.
I had wondered this a few weeks ago, as I had heard the first was at tOSU.
So I emailed them, through their website asking if that was the case.
This is the response I got....
"The very first one was at Kent State on 227 Franklin. It is still there!"
I spent far too many nights at that place... lots of good times.

~not sure what this "Cookie" thing that keeps showing up on my posts is, I am not typing it

damn I never knew about Hineygate for some reason!? I've heard of it but just figured it was a bar! Anyhow, me and my buddy will be up for the Texas game and we like to have a good time but we'll be only 20 ( I look like I'm like 25 tho). Any Suggestions on how me and my buddy should do things since you guys said the police is starting to crack down. I'd love to go to Hineygate and get trashed with all them people but what do you guys think?

Per their website they were origionally called Buffalo Wild Wings & Weck. (weck??)
weck is short for kummelweck. the type of bun with the seeds on it, that they put their sandwiches on. I think that they changed the name due to the confusion, and that they don't put their sandwiches on kummelweck exclusively anymore. I still call it b-dubs. Sad thing is. Most people that I talk to in Dayton have only known it as Buffalo Wild Wings, and have no idea what I'm talking about when I call it b-dubs.

stx: "The 5-0 definitely do not look the other now, on Lane Avenue, thanks to that bitch Holbrook."

Its not Holbrook's fault. They started cracking down on that stuff back in the '94-'95 school year under Gordon Gee.

I remember drinking WITH the cops as an 18 year old my freshman year. Begining in September '94, they started bringing out the paddywagons, busting balls, & looking for drinkers like bloodhounds, and all that shit was over.
Yep, I remember getting arrested before the Wisconsin game in '94 for underage consumption, at Hineygate.

If your under, I wouldn't even try drinking at Hineygate.
Go to a house party instead.
You wont enjoy the game much from a jail cell...

Now, were you arrested and taken down to the station? Or were you merely arrested, cited and released on the spot? I know some people are very curious as to what the term "arrested" means. :biggrin2:

A lot has changed but I remember saving a lot of money buying a case (CANS) of bud or bud light and sneaking it in Varsity Club. If you continue past the varsity club and go back behind the Holiday Inn there is usually a nice couple of Tailgates and most importantly Woods on the left that will help you with your bladder. That is the worst part of what is a great time.

No way does Heinygate sell out to a Texas Alum. I am pretty sure you are talking about the Rally at Riverwatch (Next door to Heinygate) as renting out a portion of their space. It happens every home game. The reason they do this is two-fold: the Riverwatch earns some extra cash...and it gives the visiting team a place to congregate. Most end up at Heinygate in the end anyway, but the Rally is a good place to be also. They serve both can beer and draft..Heinygate is draft only($6 a class, $12 a mug) The glass is 22 oz and the mug is 24 oz. The Rally at Riverwatch sells 24 oz cans of Coors light for $5.

If you like skin to win...Heinygate is the place to be (although there are more frequent "skin" spottings after the game)

I have been coming down for the last 10 years and they have never sold a part of Heinygate to the visiting team. They aren't going to start now. It is a tradition at Ohio State and we all know how we covet traditions!!!
