Here's the story I got in 2003 when I went to the Michigan State game. Apparently a girl a few weeks earlier got alcohol poisoning in one of the buses that parked in the alley behind the varsity club. The paramedics were called, but they could not get to the girl because of all the people and all the vehicles parked there. So they stopped allowing people to tailgate in those areas and really cracked down. The girl survived, but I guess they decided to crack down after that.crzykillernut said:I don't know much about the past, as my first year in Columbus was 2002.
Having said this, I can attest that there was a noticible difference as to the partying on lane between 2002 and 2003. 2002 was like, mega-crazy block party on the whole stretch of lane, for every game. 2003 was totally cracked down upon by the cops.
I spent far too many nights at that place... lots of good times.strohs said:Weird.
I had wondered this a few weeks ago, as I had heard the first was at tOSU.
So I emailed them, through their website asking if that was the case.
This is the response I got....
"The very first one was at Kent State on 227 Franklin. It is still there!"
Did you stop at some parties, or how many people were drinking from the case? That's only 1 long block!CleveBucks said:Damn, I remember cracking open a case of Natty at the corner of Lane & High before the 02 Texas Tech game. Didn't even make it down to Neil before we had the case finished. Picked up another case at 711 and proceeded to down them in the middle of Lane Ave. People would sell cans out of their cases to strangers in the middle of the street with the cops looking on laughing. those were the days.
I'd never set foot inside Old School without a bulletproof vest (or Mike Doss as my bodyguard).
can't wait for senior crawl next Thursday (finally graduating).
weck is short for kummelweck. the type of bun with the seeds on it, that they put their sandwiches on. I think that they changed the name due to the confusion, and that they don't put their sandwiches on kummelweck exclusively anymore. I still call it b-dubs. Sad thing is. Most people that I talk to in Dayton have only known it as Buffalo Wild Wings, and have no idea what I'm talking about when I call it b-dubs.strohs said:Per their website they were origionally called Buffalo Wild Wings & Weck. Yep, I remember getting arrested before the Wisconsin game in '94 for underage consumption, at Hineygate.Sloopy45 said:stx: "The 5-0 definitely do not look the other now, on Lane Avenue, thanks to that bitch Holbrook."
Its not Holbrook's fault. They started cracking down on that stuff back in the '94-'95 school year under Gordon Gee.
I remember drinking WITH the cops as an 18 year old my freshman year. Begining in September '94, they started bringing out the paddywagons, busting balls, & looking for drinkers like bloodhounds, and all that shit was over.
bukIpower said:damn I never knew about Hineygate for some reason!? I've heard of it but just figured it was a bar! Anyhow, me and my buddy will be up for the Texas game and we like to have a good time but we'll be only 20 ( I look like I'm like 25 tho). Any Suggestions on how me and my buddy should do things since you guys said the police is starting to crack down. I'd love to go to Hineygate and get trashed with all them people but what do you guys think?
Now, were you arrested and taken down to the station? Or were you merely arrested, cited and released on the spot? I know some people are very curious as to what the term "arrested" means.Yep, I remember getting arrested before the Wisconsin game in '94 for underage consumption, at Hineygate.<!-- / message --><!-- sig -->
