At the risk of sounding like a copycat:

Men: Federer
Women: Clijsters

I think James Blake will have a nice tournament - I'd love to see him make the quarters. Not sure about Andy, he's just seemed like even more of a headcase than usual lately.

Well, no Americans made the quarterfinals in a major for the first time in 30 years.

The women are now down to the top 4 seeds. I'm hoping for a Mauresmo-Clisters final, but it seems unlikely.

Despite being up a break in each set, and serving for the second set, Clisters cracked both times and lost to the other Belgian.

:( Too bad... I was hopeful she'd pull it out... I'm just hoping either Sharapova or Mauresmo can beat Henin-Hardenne in the final... I'd actually personally like to see Sharapova win again, but it would also be nice to see Mauresmo beat Henin in a real match after the ridiculous stunt Justine pulled at the Australian Open final.

Nadal has two sets under his belt in his match. Don't think anyone can call him a one-surface wonder anymore. I'm glad there's finally a threat to Federer's dominance... he needed a good rival, and there certainly isn't anyone else who seems to be stepping up to the task. I find it interesting that on the men's side, the four semifinalists are likely to be the #1 and #2 seeds, the #18 seed and an unseeded player. There just is no depth at the top of the game after Federer and Nadal...

Edit - Spellin'

And just making a final of a GS means you are good...but not as good as some people want to say he is. Like I said before, if he wins the US or Wibledon, then I'll acknowledge his "greatness" or "greatitude" or whatever.

Mauresmo was up a set and up 3-1 with Sharapova serving at love-40. Three cracks at a two break lead. Sharapova pulls out of it, wins four straight games and takes the second set.

It looked like another choke-job, but Mauresmo turned it around and won the third set. That should give her confidence against JHH in the final. I'd really like to see Mauresmo hit a winner in that match and be able to properly celebrate a major title.

And no, Taos... I'm not a grunter... though I can get a bit vocal after a bad shot...

If you didn't care about winning and losing, how much fun would it be?
I played tennis and racquetball for a few years.
Started playing with the wife after she bugged me.
It just got too competitive.
She kept reciting the rules till I got so mad I started hitting her in the back with a racquetball ball.
Ouch! Stupid me. Wrong me.
I decided it was better not to play directly competitive sports (racquetball, tennis) with her.
We bicycle now. Ski now.
I'm faster!

I'll bet she complains about you 'finishing first' all the time, right? :wink2:

I didn't have any strawberries and cream this morning, but I thought that Mauresmo's comeback win over Henin-Hardenne was pretty sweet!

She was obviously very happy, and during the on-court interview afterwards, she said (without a question that related to the topic):

"And I don't want anybody to talk about my nerves any more".

Agreed. It was nice to see her get to properly enjoy that moment - she really deserved it. I think the only thing that might have made it better would have been a volley winner to put it away instead of an error from Henin-Hardenne.

After the first set, Maruesmo really played well. I enjoyed watching both of these players, actually - I get a little tired of the incessant pounding away from the baseline that seems to be the standard these days, so it was great to see so much net play.
