Tennessee's next Head Football Coach

Agreed. I think Gruden discovered the same thing that Cowher and Dungy discovered: This broadcasting thing is pretty sweet. Work what, 6 hours per day and get paid a healthy sum to talk about football. No stress, no pissed off fans/GM's/owners/players.......
Check the Mark May thread if you think you can't piss off fans by just talking about the game :) And I seem to recall a number of player/coach vs announcer blow ups in recent years too. The announcing crews do spend time before the game to meet w/ the teams and gathering the stories they use if it's a blow-out.

Still less stress and better hours than coaching though. Especially better than coaching college kids.

If I had to hire a guy right now, I'd hire Mike MacIntyre from San Jose St.

One of the best turnarounds I've ever seen.

Mark, my word, wherever he advances to, he will turn them into a consistent winner.

Also has roots in the South.

Well, Tennessee's last good coach was also an annoying fat [censored], so I can see the attraction.

In all reality though, Tennessee just isn't the job it used to be. It will be a grave yard for coaches in the near future. In-state recruiting is down because it has been ignored. But more importantly, the states that used to provide Tennessee with talent-- South Carolina, Georgia and Florida-- are being cherry-picked by flagship universities. Back in the 90's when Phillip Fulmer had to recruit against Ray Golf, Mike DuBose, and whoever coached at South Carolina, he could convince good players to come to Knoxville. They are staying home now. That's not to say Tennessee couldn't be competitive in a few years. They could. But the fan base is 100% whacked out, believing they should be competing for a national championship on a regular basis. Look at the message boards calling for the AD's head because he didn't land Jon Gruden.
