Replacing Butch Jones: Breaking Down Tennessee's Potential Head Coach Candidates

Usual candidates.

bla...bla...bla....bla...bla...bla...bla...bla...bla

One other wild-card candidate is Ohio State DC Greg Schiano. He made Rutgers respectable after years of ineptitude. He’s very smart, is extremely organized and has picked up some good things from his time under Urban Meyer. He interviewed for the USC vacancy a couple of years ago and has turned down some other decent head coaching opportunities in the past year-plus. I’m told there is some interest in him.

The Vawl fans are convinced it is going to be Gruden. He’s assembling a staff now. Peyton Manning at offensive coordinator and the “coach in waiting” position no doubt.

These people would lose their shit if Gruden returned to college coaching only to take the Florida Gators HC job. So many couches, mattresses, etc would be burned in Knoxville....

That article puts Cutcliffe on the short list. He'll be 64 when next season starts. That would be a lateral move. Better in game coach than Jones, but not nearly the recruiter. If they're happy with a 9-4 ceiling, he might be their guy.

Fleck might be interesting. High ceiling, but a pretty low floor given that he's not all that proven.

In the end Tennessee will get 1 of 2 types of coaches:
1. A big name coach who is just in it for a pay check, and will claim to bring the program to prominence. But have a befuddled and bewildered look by year 2, when the team is just as bad and the fans call for his head like Ol Butchie
2. A young coordinator who thinks he bring Tennessee back to prominence, but have a befuddled and bewildered look by year 2, when the team is just as bad and the fans call for his head like Ol Butchie

Their "list" of coaches is laughable and almost too unrealistic to take seriously.

I got five on Tee Martin.
