Tebow, religion, and eyeblack

Honestly, I'm not going to try and dig up the Warner quote. I remember when it happened, and it was a minor wtf? moment in the press.

Here, however, is a very thoughtful reflection on the subject by a newspaper writer.

Warner's God talk should be off the record | PressDemocrat.com | The Press Democrat | Santa Rosa, CA

As for Florida's founding. That has nothing to do with its present status. Fredo of OHio and OU were founded by Presbyterians and Methodists. That doesn't make them any less secular or public in their current form.

Florida, regardless of the circumstances of its founding, is a secular, publicly funded university. No less so than Ohio State or Michigan.

Okay you trashed a man's character, projected on him a clinical psychiatric prognosis that is only properly offered by medical professionals after a thorough clinical evaluation, and you did all this based on a paraphrase of a quote you heard "clearly stated" in the press?
You need to either provide the direct link or back off the bashing!

Lots of religious players in the NCAA, not the least of whom you will find right here at Ohio State. The whole Tebow thing is just a product of the media's focus on one guy

Whoever said that if Tebow was posting Koran verses... I pretty much agree. It'd probably be looked at with a more suspicious eye than the Christian verses.

but, that said..

As it is, and being no particular fan of Christianity, I don't have a problem using his sounding board - eye black - to voice an opinion he feels strongly about. It is his RIGHT, first off.. and maybe even his duty, on some level. I don't have to agree with him, and I often do not agree with people and their opinions... but, he's not the Government, and he's not "forcing" me to adopt a religion (regardless of my opinion of it).

My problem with Tebow is the coverage of Tebow, not Tebow himself. He's a once in a generation player, he's not selling drugs or smacking his women. He's humble and passionate about his team and his fans and school's fans. If TP was crying after a Penn State loss and taking it "too hard" I, as an Ohio State fan, am glad he cares so much. I can't hold the same against Tebow.

I hate the media's coverage of him. I do not hate him.

I don't mind in the least if I feel the guy's just asking God to look after his health in the contest, but I'm of the opinion that God's concerns run far beyond that of whether or not someone wins a sporting event.

Manny Pacquiao operates in a similar fashion and it's sometimes a little abrasive.

Let 'em tear it up I guess, as long as they abstain from the crusading zeal.

I like Tebow as much as I can like a player from another school. He seems to live his message off the field. I wish him the best where ever he goes in the NFL. I am a person of faith so I don't mind people like Tress, Laurinaitis, and Jenkins who aren't ashamed to be forthright about it.

Now that Tiger appears to be less the holier than thou person everyone thought he was, what's the over/under on years until Tebow gets busted with 50 hoes and a kilo of blow?
Not everybody's the perfect person in the world. I mean everyone kills people, murders people, gets busted with 50 hoes and a kilo of blow, whatever.

Clearly Tebow needs to stop wearing a sentence on his eye black and use his stage to tell other schools and individuals how they must behave.
Whoever said that if Tebow was posting Koran verses... I pretty much agree. It'd probably be looked at with a more suspicious eye than the Christian verses.
Probably, but considering I'd have to read the Koran to have any idea what message he was saying, I think that's on me.

I agree with the general distaste in America of another religion, which includes Christianity these days (though obviously nowhere near the vitriol towards the Koran and such).

If killing people, murdering people, and getting busted with 50 hoes and a kilo of blow is wrong...

I want to wear eye black.
