Team I would most like to meet in a Bowl

I think most of the teams mentioned in this thread, aside from Georgia, could beat our ass this year. You guys would really want to play Florida, Texas, or Oklahoma? Really..? Why? Honestly, I think a win is more important than a prestigious bowl appearance and loss. I'm just not confident with this year's team.

'Bama does seem a bit overrated, but I still wouldn't want to play them. They have a better offense and a better defense than a Penn State team that beat us. IMO.

We've always played UT tough. It was this defense, led by Laurinaitis, Freeman, Jenkins and Washington that held McCoy to seven points. So I think we can take UT. Florida would be very tough, but with the offense clicking right now, I think it would be a good test for us.

McCoy is a much different player now.

I'm going to have a hard time trusting our team until it proves itself against an elite opponent. I don't even want to think about us playing Florida. I think their current team is much better than the team that beat us in the title game, and I think our team back then was much better than our team now.

I've watched Florida a lot this year. They're fucking good. I've watched us a little more, and I'd say that we're decent. We need to beat a team that we're not familiar with before I can be confident again.. it sucks..

there is a big difference between the northwestern DL and the UF defensive line. a game vs UF would probably end up worse than the game in 06.

While I think McCoy is better, I don't think he's entirely different from his FR year, which keep in mind, was a pretty good year for him. In fact, his completion perc, ypa and QB rating were higher his FR year than his SO year.

Florida would be a tough challenge for us. However, to say that we would have no chance would equate to ranking us somewhere in the 30s~40s range, because even high powered teams like Florida and SC can struggle with anyone in the top 30 on any given week.

NW DL actually got some pressure on Pryor, but it was mostly neutralized by his mobility. Our weak OL play has so far affected the running game much more than the passing game. If we have a healthy Rehring for the bowl game though, I think that left side could still be very powerful and Wells would running through some UF players.

I think he's entirely different. He's not a freshman or a sophomore anymore, so I don't really know what comparing those two years has to do with anything. This year, he was playing at a historic pace. He was (and still could) shatter the completion percentage record. Even though he isn't playing at the level he was, he's playing at a level higher than 95% of the QBs in the country.

I don't want to be the team that upsets Florida because Florida has an off-week, I want to be the team that beats Florida because we're better. We're not that team right now. I think if we play our best game and Florida plays their best game, they win. I think that goes for most of the top 10, honestly.

i know they did. that's my point. if NW can get that kind of push, what do you expect out of UF? this is kind of a dumb argument b/c i don't think we play UF so I'll just leave it at that.

McCoy is on pace to have the same passing yards as he did last year, plus minus 100. For that reason I don't think he's entirely different. He's a great QB, no doubt. What makes him different is that his was already very advanced as a freshman in relative terms. He would have thrown for over 3000 yards as a FR had he not suffered an injury late in the season.

Totally agree. Florida is scary. Bama might not be as exposive as Florida but their O-line and D-line would dominate ours. Ohio State doesn't have the offensive firepower to hang with the scoring machines of the Big 12.

Give me the ACC or Big East champion this year.

ACC or Big East champ sounds good to me as well. Alabama would be fun but the O-line would really have to show up. I just don't have faith in the O-line to take on Texas, Oklahoma, Florida etc. I really hate to say that but after USC I just have no faith in them.

If you're going to compare last year's Colt McCoy to this year's Colt McCoy and say he's the same based on yards alone, I'm going to have to throw these numbers out there for you.

Last year he had 18 picks, he's on pace for 8 this year.
He's on pace to raise his completion percentage by 13%.
He's on pace to have 11 more TDs.
On pace for a QB rating around 40 points higher than last year.
Projected to throw the ball 50 times fewer this year, despite being on pace for higher stats in every category, except INTs.

And I'm not even going to mention rushing yards. Colt as a freshman wasn't as big of a running threat as he is this year. He was a running threat last year for sure, but he's still going to have a much better season running the ball this year.

But we're going away from the original topic. I don't like OSU's chances against anyone in the top 10, except Utah and maybe Boise State. I'm probably going to feel this way until they prove they can beat an elite team on both sides of the ball. No offense to MSU and NW'ern, but they're not elite teams on either side of the ball. At all.

You people that are saying Florida are fucking masochists. I have decided I want nothing to do with Florida this year, in fact, if Tim Tebow comes near the state of California I will leave during that time for fear his aura may cause a change in my personality.
