Strike Up the Band: OSU Head Coach Jim Tressel said something new usually pops up every recruiting season. This year it occurred during his in-school visit to tight end Nic DiLillo at Madison High School.

"There are firsts every year," said Tressel.

"It's the first school I was every in that when we came on our school visit they had the marching band march down the hallway playing Hang on Sloopy.

"The folks at Madison are excited that Nic is a Buckeye," Tressel said with a smile.

Madison's DiLillo, Mentor's Meyer are each on the verge of 1,000 career points

The 1,000-point club is an elite fraternity for players who show offensive prowess and consistency.
Two area players are on the verge of becoming the newest members of that group.

Barring unforeseen circumstances, Madison senior Nic DiLillo and Mentor senior Joe Meyer could get there as soon as this weekend.

DiLillo - a four-year starter for the Blue Streaks - needs 16 points to reach the 1,000-point plateau. With 984 career points, the 6-foot-5 forward and Ohio State football recruit has PAC games against Chardon and Riverside before a regular-season finale against Harvey. Madison coach Pat Moran said the achievement signifies a level of solid play over a number of years.

"The big thing with Nic is that he has been a consistent performer for this program for his entire career," Moran said. "He gets a lot of attention for his football skills, but he has the talent to be a pretty good basketball player as well. It is a great honor for him, and it just further solidifies his contributions to Madison athletics."

NIC DiLILLO of Madison had plenty of reasons to be in a great mood last week.

Many people go through their whole lives without having the kind of week Madison senior Nic DiLillo had last week.

First, the son of Christine and Tony DiLillo of Madison, realized a life-long dream of playing football at the collegiate level by signing a national letter of intent to play tight end at Ohio State on Wednesday. He even took a phone call from Buckeyes coach Jim Tressel welcoming him as a member into the Buckeyes? prized 2008 recruiting class.
Then, on Friday night, he scored 20 points to pass the 1,000-career-point plateau in Madison?s 76-47 win over Chardon. Judging by the good streak he is currently riding, DiLillo was jokingly asked if had played the lottery any last week.
?No, I didn?t. Maybe I should?ve!? DiLillo said. ?The last two weeks have just been crazy. I have to pinch myself to keep making sure that this is all happening. Day after day, things keep happening and happening. It?s all crazy in my mind, but it feels really good.?

DiLillo, an Ohio State football recruit, responded with a Tiger Woods fist pump. "I was sick of losing to them. I had beat them one time in my entire high school career," DiLillo said.
DiLillo (20 points, 16 rebounds) and Heidenreich (14 points, 11 rebounds) dominated the middle.

Best of luck to Nic, great to see a Lake County kid on the upcoming roster. This kid is one who really wants to be a Buckeye as much if not more than any kid we have here. Throw out the "Clemson" and "Pitt" verbals. Nic was smart in setting up a "backup plan" just in case the Buckeye offer never came. When it did, he jumped on it immediately. He is exactly where he wants to be, and I expect this kid to be a real nice player here for the next 4 years.

I would venture to guess he is anywhere from 255-270 from seeing him on campus the last two years. I think that is pretty close to maxing his frame out, I don't think he could put on enough wait to make the move. He will probably be better utilized as a strong run blocking tight end.
