TE Marcus Baugh (Birmingham Stallions)

I've been guilty of underage drinking at least 1,000 times in my life, and never got cited once. How you can get three in a year is mind boggling to me......

On the bright side, at least it's "only" alcohol and not weed or worse......

I'm all for giving second (and third) chances, but enough is enough. Time to move on.

huh???

I hope marcus gets some help whether at OSU or somewhere else but honestly IMHO Id rather it had been weed but Ill stop and save it for another thread.

Either he has some really bad luck or he has a problem. I'd have to see the police reports to figure that out. But let's not pretend like most of us didn't consume a lot of alcohol underage. Most of us just didn't get caught doing it. And I seriously doubt getting caught once (and getting a slap on the wrist) would have deterred me from participating in parties with everyone else.

Would love to know how his talk with Urb will go. Hard to say how to handle the issue without having more info. I'm all for cutting a problem kid but only coach knows whether he falls in that category. If he does stay he will surely have a super short leash and might just be the most physically fit player on the roster come spring.

My guess is he is going to have to go above and beyond to prove himself responsible enough to the staff to get re-instated. With that said I do think he will have the opportunity to prove himself but this may be his last chance.

I got busted once for a noise violation with an underage alcohol modification as a sophomore. It was only a write-up though, not an arrest. My parents were thisss close to pulling me out of Georgetown and making me earn my way back... They made it clear that it would be the one and ONLY time I got in trouble at school. And trust me, I learned my lesson.

I guess what I'm trying to say is that three chances are too many, especially for a kid who is getting a full-ride scholarship. You have to be pretty dumb or have a serious alcohol problem to get in trouble this many times in less than one year. I would have no problem with a year-long suspension and set real guidelines he has to meet in order to earn his way back to OSU. If that's too much, he can transfer somewhere else.

Whether you have an alcohol problem or not, you certainly have a judgment problem and don't realize how good you have it and how replaceable you are if you were already been in Urban's doghouse for the same thing and then did it again. {I do like a good run-on sentence now and then.}

Frank Baugh: Right Now, Marcus is his Own Worst Enemy

Marcus Baugh is playing the waiting game once again.

For the second time in six months, the former four-star recruit has been suspended for an underage consumption arrest. This time, though, there are concerns from Baugh and his family that it could be two strikes and you’re out.

“It’s my son, I want to make sure first and foremost everything’s right in his head. But that’s the No. 1 thing, because this is not the first [arrest],” Baugh’s father, Frank, told Eleven Warriors in a phone interview Wednesday. “No matter what punishment they hand out, what more can [the coaches] do? We need to know if Marcus has a problem and needs help. What is going on?

“I understand it’s a school, and they’re going to handle it accordingly. If they send him home, it’ll be disappointing. I spoke to him and he doesn’t want to come home. But he has to exhibit some type of behavior that he wants to stay.”

Seeing his dad's response, I find some comfort. We can argue all we want about if it's just normal kids being kids stuff... but at the end of the day, it's interfering with his life -- significantly. That alone is signal enough to pause and start asking questions for his sake.
Boone was mentioned before... how many of us cringed whenever we read something about him? And in particular how much he was drinking. Granted, some cringed because of performance on the field... but I like to think that many of us saw the wasted potential and genuinely wanted better for him. Count me in that camp for Baugh. I could care if he ever plays a down, but I hope that he gets to realize his dreams before it's too late for him.
