OHIO STATE FOOTBALL INSIDER
Ohio State's Jake Stoneburner may be a new kind of Buckeyes tight end

Columbus- During his recruitment, Jake Stoneburner told everyone who would listen that he had no interest in playing tight end. He was going to college to be a receiver and catch passes.
And now he's a tight end. The Ohio State redshirt freshman figures he wouldn't be there if he wasn't going to catch passes.
"I didn't mind being moved because they told me they want me to be a game-changing tight end," Stoneburner said. "That's what teams are looking for, and if they said you're going to be a blocking tight end, that wouldn't be the most exciting thing. But I look forward to trying to be that game-changing player out there."

But if I recall correctly, JT lets recruit's choose where they want to play first. Joyner has been pretty adamant that he want's to play safety before corner, so I can see him at either FS or SS.

Another thing that gives us a tell that we will see something different is Jake Stoneburner at H-back. Last year we saw Pryor dump to the backs and to the tight end. I don't know if it was his decision or it was encouraged. Now we are adding players to those check down positions that can really make something happen when they get the ball in their hands.
Love the idea! He's gonna be a load for those DBs to take down once he gets into the defensive backfield off of those short passes. Just get the ball in his hands!SEREbuckeye;1524605; said:This seemed pretty interesting to me - Stoney at H-Back in a few sets? Hmmm...

He won't be playing a traditional TE role. Think more Travis Beckum, less Rory Nicol.BuckeyesFan0623;1524420; said:If i remember correctly Stoneburner said he wanted to play WR and now they are switching him to TE . Watching Jake Ballard pull in what may have been the catch of the year for Ohio State in the Rose Bowl, Jake Stoneburner could only wonder when will it be my turn.
In high school, Stoneburner was a game-changer.
The type of player opposing defensive coordinators have to game plan against.
At Dublin Coffman, they would simply throw him the ball and let him run, and at 6-foot-5 with his long strides, there weren?t many people who could slow him down.
Yet in the biggest game of his young collegiate career ? thus far ? it was ironically his job to slow other people down instead.
?For me, it?s always been touchdowns, catches and how well you do that way. Now it?s about your blocking, so that?s something different,? said Stoneburner, who moved from wide receiver to tight end before the 2009 season.
