I have been tailgating down in the lots off Woody Haeys Dr for about 8 years now and the good ones fill up very early,8am, for big games and 10am for other games. Parking and Traffic can be crazy the closer to kickoff you get. I usually see some opposing team's fans in the lot we are in and for the most part things are quite civil. If you want to hit some of the radio station's over priced "tailgate parties" those are along Lane Ave just north of the Football stadium, but expect to pay $5 for a semi cold beer.

As for Friday night, it all depends on where you are staying. If you are close to downtown, the Arena district is always happening. If you are closer to Campus, take a cab downtown. I am not a fan of the campus scene anymore, but I have also been out of school for 12 years.

If you want to tailgate at your car, try the Polo Lot on the west side of Cannon Dr. (the lot on the map, south of the Stadium, that's half red/half purple). We tailgate there every game. $15/car, fairly easy in and out.

I'm a little rusty on the local geography. Is that the lot that's just across King ave from Battelle?

If you want a decent tailgate spot, get there at 6 am. I usually tailgate by the AG building. $15 bucks is the going rate. Honestly, just walk around and ask various fans for some decent spots to stop by. For the most part, we are kind citizens and want visiting fans to have the best experiences possible. But you will always have an occasional jackass who could care less.

If you want to go to good bars with civilized humans, I would recommend going to the Short North (south down High Street from campus). I definitely suggest checking out Bodega, as their beer selection is top-notch. Mac's and Fabians are also good choices. They are next door to each other, and both are great for food and drinks.

My personal preference is to not hang out with hipsters too cool to like anything as popular as Ohio State football prior to Ohio State football games, but hey, to each his own.

I agree with you that Bodega's beer selection is great and you can't beat their happy hour, but the ratio of skinny jeans, plaid and dark rimmed glasses is a bit too high for my taste to be considered a fun game day crowd (unless the place totally transforms on Saturdays in the fall and I don't know about it).

This is our spot as well. We're right by Woody Hayes Drive at the AG building near the bus stop.
