Super Bowl XL - Steelers vs. Seahawks

Yippie shit!

On the Jerome Bettis thing! So what he doesn't have a Super Bowl ring yet. Cry me a river! Hey Mack Strong, a 13 or 14 year vet for Seattle, doesn't have a ring either. With any luck the Seahawks will win and then Bettis an join all the other athletes who have never won a title.

Actually that may be a good start to another thread. Who can name more great athletes in any team sport who never won a championship. Membership in a respective Hall of Fame could be the definition of "great". Two come to mind right now for me in basketball: Bob Lanier and Charles Barkley. Did Nate Thurmond ever win one? For football Fran Tarkington never did either. Did Walter Payton win one? Of course, Barrie Sanders didnt.

Holmgren's Ride Nearly Heisted?

Gee - if it were not for the joke that valet parking in Detroit is synonymous with car-jacking this might not even merit space in print.

"They checked it out," Holmgren said. "It was nothing."
The investigation occurred Feb. 2 and didn't take long.
"Basically, all that happened was one of the official vehicles the team has assigned with them was noticed to have the hood ajar," Detroit FBI special agent Bob Beeckman said. "And they found there was a logical explanation for that."
Beeckman did not reveal what that explanation was.
"There was really nothing to it," he said.
It was the second vehicle mishap for the Seahawks at the Motor City Super Bowl.
On Jan. 30, a van carrying six players -- including league MVP Shaun Alexander and Pro Bowlers Matt Hasselbeck, Steve Hutchinson and Walter Jones -- struck a mechanical security fence while trying to enter a downtown parking garage. The players said they were jolted from their seats, but no one was injured.
The Seahawks are staying in Dearborn, about 20 minutes away from Ford Field, where they'll play Pittsburgh on Feb. 5.
It was not known how far Holmgren's car had been moved at the parking lot during the day Feb. 2.
Agents from the FBI field office in Detroit inspected the interior, exterior and underside of the car for evidence of tampering and the potential presence of an explosive device.

Was this not one of the most inept Super Bowl games of all time? Steven's shoots off his mouth and then drops four or five balls before finally catching one. Porter was where? Rothlesberger (sp) couldn't hit the broad side of Aretha's ass. The zebras screw up the game left and right and then Holmgren and Hasselbeck twice give us a clinic on how not to run a two minute offense. Al Michaels and John Madden did a fine job of making it all seem like a professional game despite ample evidence to the opposite.

Madden has slipped, I use to like him. Michaels is great in a playoff game and in close regular season games. Once a regular season game is out of hand he will divert the topic to other bullshit. Talk about the game Michaels.

Whats sad is I could predict what they were going to talk about before they usually did. And of course their complete lack of the facts most of the time. Obviously they forgot that Randle El threw a td against the Bengals in teh playoffs because according to Madden and Michaels that was the first time they were able to make that play even though they have been working on it.

I think the Steelers used the same play against the Browns on Sunday Night. The one against the Bengals was similar but it was a throwback to Roethlisberger and he launced a pass to Wilson. Still, horrible research by Michaels, Madden, and their crew. A lot of NFL commentators now a days are horrible. All they want to do his hype up the stars. I think one of those SI guys, Zimmerman maybe, grades the commentators every year. He talked to one of the producers from CBS and asked them why they hype the stars and defend their bad plays no matter what. The producer told Zimmerman off and said you don't know what you are talking about.

JMJ! (that's Jesus, Mary and Joseph for the uninitiated. In Catholicism, that's know as an 'ejaculation' but I'm not going there) Why did I mention the announcers? Am I the only one who thought this game was one of the supreme let downs in super Bowl history? How could a team of professionals twice screw up the last seven minutes of both halves the way Holmgren and Hasselback did? And what about last night's zebras? Can you believe how big a call that first pass interference call was? And what a cheesy call it was! They didn't get any better as the night went on.

they fail to notice that quite a few fans and journalists across the nation felt the game had horrible reffing. (I've read texas, nc, and sc boards, and the complaints are fairly similar to this board). It's much easier to write it off as the natural response of bitter, jealous bengals/browns fans.

:tibor:

He has one now.

When I think of some of the great running backs of all time I think of Barry Sanders, Payton, Brown, Smith, Bettis...and Mack Strong? :slappy:
