News Flash from ESPN radio (Gottlieb).... Arkansas 4th best team in SEC west. I remember a few posts saying that if the Bucks won there would be some commentary in this direction. I shouldn't have turned on ESPN radio but unfortunately radio selection sucks here.

I don't think he really had any time to assess the situation. He knew the ball was in front of him. He knew there were people around him. Had he turned to look who it was and it was an Ohio State player, he may not have gotten the ball.

Right after the block, if he's thinking, he realizes that it doesn't matter who recovers it, it's going to be Arkansas' ball even if tOSU falls on it because it's a blocked punt, not a fumble. And that he should try to scoop it up.

Similarly, the other guys following him should have turned around to look for guys to block. It comes from coaching players what to do in situations like that before they occur. Watch what Virginia Tech players do after they get a blocked punt or a blocked FG. They always try to scoop and score, and the guys not picking up the ball look around for guys to block, rather than just all running toward the ball.

And jlb, I wouldn't have used the word 'brainless' it it had been a Buckeye that fell on the blocked piunt. I would have been more careful, and gone with 'unthinking'. :wink2:

My understanding is that the runner has to run back into the end zone of his own volition -- think 05 Texas game when the Bucks failed to nail a tackl in the end zone -- what hurt was that the tackler lost control before the ball was blown dead. Had it been anyplace but behind the goal line I'm sure it would have been marked as forward progress? Where were these clowns from, the ACC?

Yes, the great Jeff Flanagan ACC refs. Fucking dipshit crew missed about a dozen holding calls (against both teams not just Arkansas), 4 or 5 unsportsmanlike conduct after the whistle BS and atleast 1 PI that I can remember. That goes woithout even mentionong the Safety which quite possibly was the worst call I've ever seen.
