I'm still pissed at the "safety" call! I've never seen that called in that same situation. Always forward progress is given. :susp: Could have cost us the game at that point.
And the "no call" on Philly Brown getting leg-whipped was a travesty. Kid could have gotten a knee blown out.

As far as the safety call, if Boom had scored would you have opted for the extended run call? Boom had broken free of the initial tackler and thats why they called it a safety.

as he was breaking free from the initial tackler, he was off balance falling to his left as a player grabbed his legs. I would even argue that the second guy grabbed his legs while the initial tackler was still holding on to him. My scarlet glasses say he never broke free. He didn't even get one clean step without an opposing tackler touching him (after being driven back 3 yards).

The only time i have seen forward progress not awarded is when a guy is driven back then cleanly breaks free and there is no opponent in the act of tackling them. Then the runner actually gains positive ground (but not back to the original forward gain) while being untouched before being tackled.

or how about the no call personal foul when boom took the ball up the sideline, lowered his head into a Ark DB's chest, picked up another 5 yards before being driven out of bounds. A second defender piles on 3 yards into the bench and hip tosses boom to the ground.

There was a lot of holding going on in the interior of the Ark O-line as well. A few got called but not many. The biggest that the refs couldn't ignore may have been the one on Heyward; on the sweep that ultimately knocked them out of scoring position. They could not handle the strength nor the quickness of Heyward (or should I say Howard...lol). Tressel put it best: "Cam was a beast out there tonight. He was all over the place". He just made himself a few extra $$$$$ in that game.

GO BUCKS!!!!

We're all biased, and therefore it doesn't make it any easier of a call to make/explain. However, my problem with the call is that Boom was driven back for what seemed to be at least 2-3 solid seconds, and no whistle was blown. With that being said, that is fine. On that note, though, I have a hard time understanding this:

If a guy is gang tackled and driven back multiple yards, and the defenders just push him backwards without any intention of tackling him, should the RB be penalized with X amount of yards. Boom was fighting his tail off, as I would hope any running back would. With that being said, it almost seemed like Arkansas was driving him back with the intention of letting him go and having another defender tackle him once Boom had lost his balance/broken free.

It may be a safety, but it was poor officiating IMO. And although I was upset with the nature of the call, the officiating was suspect for both teams throughout the course of the game. Whatever.

More specifically, he knew the ball was getting behind him. I imagine his defensive instincts/coaching kicked in to not sacrifice possession altogether, and there was too much adrenaline and too little time to realize this wasn't a normal fumble recovery situation.

Bolded. John L Smith is Arky's special teams coach.

Hence, in the heat of the moment, his players did exactly what he coached them to do, something incredibly stupid that would assuredly lead to his team snatching defeat from the jaws of a landmark victory.

also explains why he was slapping himself in the face in the post game presser.

If that were only the case. However, considering the tackling demonstration (or lack thereof) that the Arky defense exhibited in the first half, it was just another example of poor technique. Just happened to benefit them large this time.

The refs seemed to be very hesitant to call forward progress all night. There were at least 2 other times where (and I don't remember who) was pushed back pretty far and/or by a lot of tacklers, and I kept wondering why no whistle was being blown.

The safety was the only one that really mattered though since a score depended on it.

i just went and dropped in on Tigerdroppings.com and as you can assume, the reason ohio state won is because Arkansas gave us the game...we didnt deserve to win, we all wear jerseys to the games (cant argue that, but they wear button up polo's with stupid straw Bobby Bowden-esque hats), the Vest Bump was the gayest thing they have ever seen on television, we beat a bad SEC team, our D-Line is good and Heyward was very good, we will never beat a Alabama, LSU, Florida or Auburn...and theres more slackjaw shit i dont feel like typing out

When I looked it was mostly pig-bashing. Rightfully so. They let the conference down. They fact that many feel that way is not so much a slam at TOSU, but a slam at the piggies for letting an epic come back win get away in the final minute. They (conference fans) loved them some 0-9 record, and they wanted - desperately - to be able to photoshop some 0-10 Big-10 posters.

The Piggies let large numbers of SEC fans down by your well earned victory.

The SEC hatin' on the Big-10 will now move on and focus on the the state of Michigan for the next several years. :slappy: I'm sure y'all are broken up about it.

eh... tOSU could have handed it to Florida & LSU this year. Probably would have lost to Alabama and Auburn. That being said, where would Auburn be without Cam? With him gone, they could easily drop like a rock...

Yeah, I don't get this. "Disengaged" is not what I saw. He got stood up and help came to push him backwards. Until someone comes up with a good explanation, that was a bullshit call that an average peewee ref would have gotten right.

My understanding is that the runner has to run back into the end zone of his own volition -- think 05 Texas game when the Bucks failed to nail a tackl in the end zone -- what hurt was that the tackler lost control before the ball was blown dead. Had it been anyplace but behind the goal line I'm sure it would have been marked as forward progress? Where were these clowns from, the ACC?

Just back from NOLA. A few thoughts.

1. Arkansas fans are pretty classy and it was nice to see a group that excited about an appearance in a BCS bowl. I think we are getting jaded by our success - judging by how fired up the comparative fan bases were. I know it was pretty much a home game for them but I have seen OSU fans more passionate in past games.

2. Our Band made Arkansas Band look like a group of 3rd graders playing recorders for the first time. TBDBITL is incredible. My wife has never seen a live game before and she was floored by their performance.

3. I have a new appreciation of how Pryor's ability to scramble can completely demoralize an opposing fanbase. He just shuts a crowd up with his feet.

4. I can say without hyperbole that the next person I hear doing that Pig Sooie call will get a karate chop to the larynx. Second only in annoying to the FSU tomahawk war cry. I swear they rolled with that thing 500 times during the game.

5. The SEC chant at the end was awesome. As was the sing along with the team and band. Go Bucks!

6. Coop's place is the eatery to try in NOLA. Abita beer selection, Jambalaya and Fried chicken that can't be beat. Wife said it was better then sex. Don't know how to feel about that one.

7. Bourbon street can wear a man out. Time to go to bed.:oh:
