Sugar Bowl - LSU 41, Notre Dame 14 (Final, Jan. 3, 2007)

Any coach, I don't care who it is, should get 5-6 years to truly get his guys in place and get his system in place.

Charlie Weis should get 4 more years to see what he can do with his guys in his system. He is having some recruiting success (based on the * system, the jury is always out on how those 4 and 5 * kids actually perform).

That said, he did bring a lot of criticism on himself by his demeanor and his smug attitude. The media is to blame for all of the genius talk. The same media that is going to be there to bring him down if NoD sucks again over the next two years.

Brady Quinn may have cost himself some money last night with his performance under pressure.

so, in the 2+ seasons that weis has been coached, he did not address these areas? willingham ingrained these poor qualities in the 1.5 years of his tenure that most of these kids went through? I don't buy it.

So you are saying that every starting member of ND's secondary is just that piss poor of an athlete that they cant even figure out coverages? I dont buy that either.

LOL! YOU KNOW SO LITTLE ABOUT FOOTBALL! LOL!

:SLAPPY:

ER...

:slappy:

You sounds like someone else, but I just cant place it

These ass-kickings suck.....

Not to poor lemon juice on your paper cut Chief, but now do you see why I always call them severely overrated, and how I/we said that they didnt belong in a BCS bowl this year? I mean if anything proves the point, it's getting pasted 41-14 in a major bowl game.

I loathe NoD as much as the next guy, but, again, is it NoD's fault that they are where they are? Do they over hype themselves year after year? No, espin and the media do.

It's the lovesick media and a HUGE fan base that's based on ghost stories about the NoD mystique that make NoD so attractive to NBC and the BCS. I watched the whole game last night just so I could watch NoD get their asses kicked. I bet that's why half the people that watched tuned in. The other half were rooting for the irish. You can't say that about many teams.

Any school would kill to have the advantages that the irish have. They have a national tv contract as a recruiting tool for crying out loud and that's not going to go away. It's not their fault.

But I hate them!!!

ysubuck, I think you are cutting them a little too much slack.
They are effectively active participants in their own myth building. Anyone who has been to the ND campus, or visited their athletic department website will appreciate that to be true. As for NBC hyping ND, sure, that happens, but again ND is a witting participant in the pumping of their football product.

I think it is fair to say that the blame for over-reaching ambition and unrealistic expectations does not fall solely on ND's shoulders, but I cannot accept as true that they are not culpable in the pimping of their own myth.

Not only that but the fatman hasn't taken time to show the guys how to wrap up someone when they tackle? or maybe how to stay with your guy and not let him get behind you and burn the entire team?

Maybe it's just this class and maybe they will be a better team with out Quinn, but at this point I am thinking the Domers coaching issues are far from over. Although, they can probably go through next year, losing two games and sneaking into a BCS bowl again.

Maybe they should have put them up against Wake, then at least Wake would have gotten a good chance to win a bowl game.

you don't have to be an athlete to know what coverage you're supposed to be in on a given play, nor do you have to be an athlete to take a proper angle to the ball carrier. Only ND fans are saying they aren't that good of athletes, but poor coaching, as you have admitted, is why they have not improved. ND fans try to place this on willingham, while weis has had 2.5+ seasons to rectify these deficiencies.

I love how quick ND fans are to pardon Brady Quinn. They have been making excuses for him for four straight years. First, he was a true Freshman. Then Willingham was holding him down. Then he almost beat SC. And the defense was holding him back. This year, it was the offensive line. I mean, they were awful last night, allowing a sack and giving him all night to throw.:roll2: If 4 years of terrible play in big games isn't enough to make them turn on him, I don't know what is enough.

I think they have all bought into the media hype that he's the next great NFL QB. :sad2:

Yeah, it's the media, but Charlie hasn't exactly played down the idea of him being a genius, or kept from flashing his assistant coach rings every time he has a PC. If one is going to talk themselves up, then one can't be surprised when others revel in their inability to back it up.

2 straight years he's been exposed as the 2nd best QB on the field in a Bowl game. Its obvious to everyone but the ND nation.

Brady Quinn = Chris Simms...at best.

I remember that was one of the points the announcers and the Tennessee coaches were making during the Outback Bowl...that Penn State wasn't all that athletic in the secondary, but they almost always knew where they were supposed to be, and were usually there...they credited Bradley for that, so I imagine that's definitely coaching. ND Nation needs to face the fact that Charlie doesn't care whether he has a good defense or not...there is no other explanation for their lack of ability in seemingly simple assignments.
