36-33 Ohio State over LSU in 1988, UNDER COOPER!
That '88 LSU team was the one that played in the famed "Earthquake Game" against Auburn two weeks later.

OSU's comeback vs LSU would've been an Earthquake Game of its own, if 75% of the people at the Horseshoe hadn't already left. :tongue2:

Just so you know, we have done stuff against the SEC.

Hell - of course you have. You are a premier institution in the national college football landscape. Only an idiot would disagree.

But I just have to respond in some way to the hits on my fellow SEC fans, coaches and institutions a little. You know - that delicate balance of knowing on whose board ( which I enjoy thoroughly, both the posters and the site) I am hanging as a guest, tempered with my feeling's of loyalty to my much better, speedier conference.

I mean that sincerely. I enjoy your posts, and your overall interaction.

Thanks man. Me too with y'all. My response is just a little gig back atcha. Gator hide is thick stuff, so no worries. I'm just sad that we let Auburn take us at our house, or we'd have a small shot at the rematch with you guys in New Orleans...where I can buy the round or two for you guys in my hometown.

You still have a small shot if the Gators win out. If there were ever a year when a two-loss team sneaks in, this would be it. I don't see anyone from #2-10 who is a lock to run the rest of the table, and all of the four we have remaining are team with winning records.

Kansas has AtM, OK St. and Missouri; VT plays at UVA; USF and WVU still have the meat of the Big East; Oklahoma has AtM, OK St. and Texas Tech; BC is going to lose this week in Blacksburg; Oregon's only easy game is Arizona; ASU has to play all of the ranked Pac-10 schools yet; only LSU has an easy ride, and they still have to get by Alabama in Baton Rouge.

IF (big capital "if") UF wins out, beating South Carolina, you would go to the SEC title game potentially ranked in the top 5 against a #2 LSU team. Hammer 'em, and I think you get voted in for your rematch.

Start saving beer money now, just in case.

Nothing here about the Gators (I have four nieces, all UF alums, to contend with) or the SEC, but as a Gator fan what's your take on Spurrier?

The guy's sideline mannerisms make my fillings itch. All I need is one of his whiney outbursts to start rooting for who ever is on the other side. I might even root for Notre Dame if Spurrier were the oppossing coach... well, not if Weis were the other coach, but I'd certainly think about it.

Like single malt scotch, he is an acquired taste. Love 'em or hate 'em. For most of the SEC, it was hate 'em, as he is arguably the best SEC coach ever. While Bear was - well - the Bear - he had a hundred plus recruits on his Bama squad, and would recruit you and offer you just to keep you from playing against him. In a time of modern scholarship limits, I do not think that his records of SEC wins would be as good as SOS. Steve literally changed the scope of college football, both in offensive and defensive coaching and in the use of talent. The man won a championship at Duke for God's sake, and has the Gamecocks right in the hunt versus UT, Bama, UF, and UGA. Despite the Vandy loss, he played LSU at BR very well.

He is not so much a coach in his mannerisms, as a fan. A vocal, biased, smart ass fan. But he does not "coach-speak", and does not give a rat's ass what you think about him. He is not a phony, whatever his many faults, and that is a major plus with me. Did I like him keeping the Gators from the SEC championship game in 05? No. Did I like him beating the Gators in '06? No. (yeah - we blocked the kick and won, but he out coached us in '06)

He is a big mouth smart ass, and I always find him amusing. He is tough to like I guess, but he kept us clean, was a good disciplinarian, and brought us unparalleled success and our first of many SEC and First National Championship.

Bottom line, most of the bitter rivals I've talked to in the SEC are glad to have him back, as it is a much more interesting college football world with him in it than out of it.

How do you think Urban compares in recruiting v. Stevey?

Urban is a better recruiter, hands down. Steve thought that anyone should want to come to UF, and did not recruit hard. Now his assistants did. Both Teevans and Zook were/are good recruiters. Steve would rather play golf.

He is doing more now at SC than he did at UF, but then he has to.

I really like Urban. Our grades are up, our graduation rate is up, and despite recent lapses (did you see the sign at the Kentucky game? - "TONY JOINER STOLE MY CAR" F'in - hilarious), kept us out of trouble.

He seems to really take an active roll in his players' lives, much like Tress. I admire that.
