Steve Sarkisian - (Cutty Sark after Dark, Texas HC)

Just came here to post this.

Guess he doesn't want to coach anymore since this stunt will most likely get him blacklisted from most programs.

he wins and he won't have to (and he's probably going to win a settled number)

the disability thing is so well known in the business world, you don't have to be a lawyer to know

USC is dreaming that they have a valid defense. Denial of substance abuse is almost always part of the disease and, even if the HR folks at USC didn't know that, they still will be found to have had a legal duty to take that into account in making reasonable accommodations. If you believe USC didn't know Sark was in the denial stage I would like to sell you some lovely beachfront property in Omaha.

I think a CEO is entitled to a much more limited set of protections relative to "reasonable accommodations" than a line worker. A head coach is essentially the CEO of the football team.

USC has also violated The Alcohol Abuse and Alcoholism Prevention, Treatment and Rehabilitation Act of 1970 as well as HIPAA laws regarding the sensitivity of Sarkisian's condition. Somebody within the USC program was leaking info to Scott Wolf at the LA Daily News at the same time the University of Washington released expense information to the press under an FOI request regarding purchases made during Sarkisian's tenure there. All of that resulted in Sark's second leave and eventual termination.

One of the fundamental tenets of AA is the anonymity -- patients with substance abuse problems are more likely to succeed at rehabilitation if their condition is not know by the general public. His argument will be that the damage to his reputation made him unemployable, and has (or had) directly impaired his ability to successfully receive treatment, and this was preventable by USC.

If it were USC, rather than TMZ and Deadspin, who publicized Sarkisian's drunken escapades, I'd see more validity in your argument here.

More importantly, does anyone see Sark as a good candidate to replace Beck?

Really. He didn't get fired for drinking, or for being an alcoholic. He got fired for drinking on the job!
