Star Wars: The Old Republic

You have to remember that SWTOR is a true MMO this time around. 200 hours to "beat" an MMO isn't that bad. That is 8 total days of play time, which isn't a whole lot of time for an MMO. You look at something like World of Warcraft and it takes people anywhere from 5-9 days just to hit the level cap.

I think that is what he is saying. 200 or so hours per class level. With several class levels throughout your total playing time.

I didn't take it that way. Sounds to me like 200 hours for Bounty Hunter, 200 hours for Jedi, 200 for smuggler, etc. Not 200 hours for each level in each class.

Of course with 8 classes that is 1600 hours to have 8 characters complete their main quests.

Yea, i'm understanding it as Scott said above. It would take each specific class 200 hours to beat the game. I'm guessing for most people it will take much longer than that because they will get sidetracked, do some pvp, etc. Either way, long games a never a bad thing....i hate buying games that i can beat in 20 or less hours of game play, those aren't worth $60+ to me.

Yeah, I believe you guys are correct after reading the headline again. I will be pleased as long as it is has a quality Story line, which I think will be it's strongest point, and is not confusing. 200 or so hours is fine by me.

Star Wars: The Old Republic is now available for pre order, as of 7/21/11. There are three different versions up for early order and it basically comes down to what extra trinkets you want and if you are fine with a downloadable digital copy or if you need a hard copy. Prices are 60, 85, and 150. By pre ordering you get access to a period of early game play that is not testing or beta. Here's a link if your interested:

Think "World of Warcraft", but Star Wars. How much nerdy dorkiness can you fit into one game? I can't wait to find out. All it needs is some pixelated hot chicks and it'll be my perfect game.

It should be out around the end of October.

If i had the time, i would totally pick up this game. I've been waiting for this to come out for a long ass time. I just know once Diablo III hits shelves, i will be playing that nonstop since they basically made it into a free MMO this time around. I've getting the newsletter and updates on this game for almost 2 years...this might in fact be the true "WoW Killer". World of Warcraft is already losing subscribers left and right currently, and this might just put it over the edge.

So how does it work? You pick Jedi, Sith, or Trooper?

Choose a side (Sith or Republic) and then choose 1 of 4 classes.

For Republic - Smuggler, Trooper, Jedi Knight, or Jedi Consular
For Sith - Imperial Agent, Bounty Hunter, Sith Warrior, or Sith Inquisitor

Each class branches out even further as you progress. For example, a bounty hunter can specialize in powertech or mercenary. From what I can tell one is more of a tank that can take high damage while the other is more of an attacking high damage per second type player.

Each class will have their own unique storyline on top of being able to do the usual group MMO type stuff.

I have never played WoW, yet from what I have heard it will have a similar combat style with tanks, dps, healers, etc. MMO's have never been my style, to much grinding. This is supposed to reduce some of that, but I always take that with a grain of salt. I may give it a shot if the reviews are really high, otherwise there is no way I would pay $15 a month for this. Especially since even the games I like the most I drop after a month or two.

Why can't they just do a Battlefront game for the Next Gen and be done with it. That's half the reason I bought a PS3 years ago was in anticipation of a Next Gen Battlefront game. And here I sit......waiting.

They were almost done with it and dropped the project for some reason... their is gameplay footage for it on youtube.

SW TOR looks really good. There isn't supposed to be a tradional "grind" like other MMO's have. Yeah, you'll have to level up, but everything is going to be story driven. They're not going to have the "Run all around, collect 10 dingo carcasses, then run back" kind of quests. It's supposed to be more fun and will blow the WoW questing away, we'll see. Everything is supposed to have voice acting too, from the quests, to NPC interactions, etc.

I don't know if it'll kill WoW, but you have to figure that game will continue to go strong with subs for another couple years at the very least regardless. They just have too many people for it to suddenly die.
