I don't think that it has to do with prejudice thoughts at all. I just feel that I shouldn't have to change my way of life to accomodate someone who just came to my country and became a citizen.

Russians, Germans, French, Somolians, Asians (Of all sorts) the list goes on and on of other cultures that have arrived on the shores of The U.S.A. None in the past has tried to change our country just accepedit for what it was and learned our way of life. I'm not prejudice against any of them America is one big melting pot. But if you're going to be here learn to communicate with other Americans as an American in our "Most Popular" (Since we don't have a national language) form which is English.

Give me one valid reason to sing it only in English.

I'll give you five good reasons.....1...2...3...4...5!

This is the part I don't get. What is it about a guy recording a song in studio in Spanish that is going to change how you live your life?

I think there is a much bigger picture than just the recording session. What about the "we have to teach them in Spanish because that is there heritage" - they don't want to learn English so we pay for them to be taught in Spanish? Also - In TX there are many more problems. Families coming across (One provider - dad with wife and multiple (say 6) kids) resulting in heavy reliance on Welfare and Medical care for them along with schooling. Not only do they come illegally, but they do destroy peoples land (setting up camps sites (fires burn down large acreage because of lack of rain). then they break into houses and steal food and clothes. (are they entitled to that too?)

Next they steal a vehicle or multiple (not saying all, but it is a big problem here). they don't have licenses nor insurance so the rates of those that do SKYROCKET - GEIKO wanted 300 a month from me on a 97 Dakota and I have a great driving record (1 ticket at the age of 18). I was involved in a hit in run in San Antonio 3 years ago, the other driver side swiped me and took off. the way they hit my pickup caused me to spin and hit a guardrail.

While all of this may seem fine and OK to you , go ahead and give them rights/ amnesty - because as we all know they are all about obeying our laws and following the procedures set in place rather than demanding that we change the system for them as well as the language, etc. There was a girl down here saying that this is their land (5 SWern states) and they have the right to be here and do what they want? Many have even called for open borders. Isn't that exactly what the Mexican "president" wants?

I'm with you on most of that. But what does any of that have to do with a guy singing a song that resembles our national anthem in Spanish? Nothing.

Singing one incorrect version and declairing it to be the American National Anthem are another. I have no problem with them singing a song, but when you nutcher our Anthem and then call it by a false name is where I have a problem. There song is not my National Anthem as they would want you to believe.

I agree with you there. Reading the lyrics, the song itself is an abomination.

Isn't that what they are trying to do? Show pride in their language, heritage and culture?

Yeah, problem is, they're not in Mexico!

Are you trying to start an argument or are you that far out there to think that we should sing our National Anthem in 50 different languages.

I mean you can't just do it in Spanish, that would be insensitive to all of our other nationalities. :roll1: (What a bunch of fucking bullshit!)

If you're going to take the chance of jumping the fence, you do so knowing what you're getting in to, you basically want to cater to criminals who are breaking the law.

How about this, if you like Spanish so much, how about you jump the border into Mexico and see how you are treated, their laws regarding illiegal immigrants are MUCH MORE strict than the US.

Somehow, I knew it would either be you or Mili that ruin a good debate with worthless, hostile diatribe. I have no intention of leaving this country, and as a combat veteran (from a long line combat veterans) lay higher claim to the right to be here than most. I've been on five continents and have seen my fair share of culture, most of it primitive and deprived.

I don't speak a lick of Spanish and likely never will. But if its done in good taste (as I thought this project was about) and is done to honor our nation, sing in whatever language you want. What's the big fucking deal?

I've been to Mexico and can see why damn near everyone wants out, but just the same, I wanted out of Daytona but still have a lot of pride in my home town. Its where I was raised and and that never will change.

Wanting a better life is not wrong if its done through legal channels. I've agreed many times, the illegals should be rounded up and sent the fuck home.

But this thread isn't about that. Its about a song being sung in a language that people may not know or find offensive because its different than theirs. And that, is the very definition of prejudice.

I wasn't trying to be a jerk, just found your calling people "prejudiced" b/c they don't think singing the National Anthem in Spanish is OK, a complete insult and slap in the face.

And also, I appreciate your service as well as any serviceman but please show me in the Constitution where it says you have more of a right to be here b/c you served in the military, talk about an elitist attitude. :roll1:

I've avoided this thread, so I don't know what's been said, but let me just say - and this coming from possibly the most "unpatriotic" member of this board - I see no reason why the National Anthem should be sung in any other language than the "National Language"

Do they sing the German Anthem in Greek?
Do they sing the Greek Anthem in Korean?
Do they sing the Korean Anthem in English?

Any debate that this country may be having on this issue is, in my mind, completely absurd.

To add a little bit -

When I went to Amsterdam I was prepared to speak Dutch. I'm not a native speaker of Dutch, but I was prepared to get buy with my little translation book.

When I go to Mexico, I speak spanish.

I don't ask these countries to conform their language to mine, I conform me to them. Why? Because it's their fuckin country and its more than a little bold for me to expect them to accomodate MY language. Fortunately for us English speakers, much of the world communicates in our language.
