...and therein lies the rub.

If there were an American of hispanic decent doing a Spanish version because of love for his nation...I would have no problems with it.

However that's not what is happening here. It's being done by an Englishman as a political statement. No thanks.

He would be better served translating God Save the Queen into Turkish.

But the even larger question raised by Thump is whether or not Americans are more or less prejudiced than other countries? Sure, we should work to remove all prejudice whatsoever in our lives, but why is America the one always criticized when we are much less so than almost all other countries.

So, because other countries might be prejudiced too means that we don't have to work on it?

I'm unsure how I feel about someone leading everyone in singing a spanish national anthem, it seems to be a gray area to me. I don't care if everyone else sings the song in their own way, off-pitch, not in rhythm, and in klingon. Just like I don't care what language people speak on their own. As for the issue of catering to foreign languages, I'm not a big fan of US schools being taught in spanish (what they speak in the hallways is nobody's business).

It should not be sung in Spanish at official or generally public events. One rendition is enough and for now English is still the nation's primary tongue. If folks want to sing it in Spanish, Pashtun, Kang!, Mandarin, or ebonics on their own time or at their own events, Godspeed.

Seems to me like a desecrated version with twisted lyrics. Tell me if anyone else feels wierd about the following cut from the spanish version. Does it not seem more like a call to revolt / riot for mexico than it does as a "tribute" to wanting to be Americans?
