I believe December 16th should be officially marked "Bill Martin day" in the state of Ohio in honor of this mans unprecedented service to our state.

December 16th of course being the anniversary of the day he gave us our greatest gift:

(Note the comments section)

On St Bill Martin's eve I am especially grateful that he took away their ability before he took away their pride.

These past 13 years, watching the DFBIA, and the tsun program, get to the point where we watched them actually quit the fucking sport (at least for a season) has been one of the finer periods of my life.

On St Bill Martin day, I am going to open old web pages and read stories about his hiring. Read about how it meant impending doom to the B1G and maybe even read some of the comments to remember the types of things their fans were saying lo those many years ago.

something like this for instance
Rodriguez’s offensive creativity should immediately squash the perception that Michigan is antiquated offensively. The Wolverines have relied on power football that critics have labeled unimaginative.

“Imagine what he does with limitless resources and tools,” said Jed Drenning, a friend of Rodriguez’s who played and coached for him at Glenville State in West Virginia. “Plug that into the Big Ten, and they’re not going to know what hit them.”

God, how is it possible that was 13 years ago? That’s the same amount of time Coop was at tOSU. Why does that seem so much longer?

Because Coop’s 13 years ended 20 years ago

I realize your question was rhetorical, I just wanted to say it

and revel in it

our misery wasn’t nearly as bad and we’re looking at it two decades in the rear view mirror

They’re still on their nightmare ride, and what they see out of the windshield doesn’t look any more promising than what they just drove through.

As much as I loved laughing at their foolish optimism, seeing their reactions as they look at their future from the Black Pit Of Negative Expectations is even better

2020 ain’t all bad

As much as some of us like to hate on John Cooper, in his 13 seasons he had:
  • Overall winning percentage of .715
  • Rose Bowl win, #2 finish in 1996
  • Sugar Bowl win, #2 finish in 1998
  • Finished #6 in 1995
  • Heisman Trophy
  • Maxwell Award
  • Walter Camp Award
  • Outland Trophy
  • Lombardi Award (x2)
  • Thorpe Award
  • Butkus Award
  • Biletnikoff Award
  • Doak Walker Award
  • William V. Campbell Award
  • 11 All Americans
  • 8 Academic All Americans (believe it or not)
  • 18 first round draft picks (two #1 overall)
Meanwhile, in the past 13 seasons, scUM has:
  • Overall winning percentage of .597
  • Sugar Bowl win in 2011
  • One top-10 finish (#10 in 2016)
  • Four minor awards (Rimington, Mackey, Hornung, Lott)
  • 6 All Americans
  • 1 Academic All American (Harvard of the West, indeed)
  • 7 first round draft picks
And the best thing is, scUM has been even worse than Cooper in the rivalry (1-11, with one tap out) and in bowl games (2-7).

What a magnificent son of a bitch!
