Spring Weight Loss Drive

I actually have trained for 13 years. I am 26 right now. My weight has varied from 260lbs to 201lbs with the same amount of strength. I purposely dieted down because I was tired of being winded and fatigued with daily activities. I didn't maintain the strength all at once of course, but my physique has changed a lot over the years as well with it.

My last meet I actually had to drop 21lbs of water overnight. That's not dieting (it was water dropping)but yes I have dieted consistently for over ten years (yea it took me awhile to finally realize how big of an asset a diet that is geared towards your goals really does make the difference)...

Most powerlifters tend to carry high bf% to help them utilize leverage, and continually get stronger...I just don't like being fat too be honest, and outside of powerlifting it really doesn't help being overweight for me..

In any competitive sport, when it comes to dieting. I don't really think there is an "offseason"...It's too difficult to hop back on the quality diet if I spend much time off it at all. To continually get better you have to continually fuel your body with proper food intake or it simply will not get better.

Any chance of reposting that pic you took down a year or so ago?

Thanks, I just cut back what I eat (a lot), work out a couple days a week, and no sugar drinks. It started out as a "Biggest Loser" type competition between my wife and I, but she didn't really take it seriously. I wish she would because it would make me [strike] try [/strike] harder.

I took one word out of your final sentence. Maybe that's the motivation she needs. :wink2:

Lost 40 pounds!

Over the past 5 years I've gradually gained more and more weight since I got married, had a couple of kids, stopped working out, etc.

Last April we took a family pic, and when I got them back that's what it took to finally get me back to the YMCA instead of flopping on the couch after coming home from work and cuddling up to a hot BK Whopper, Taco Bell, Cassano's Pizza, etc. & a cold beer (I still do that occasionally, just not nearly every night like I used to).

Like I was saying: on Thursday April the 17th (I believe) I got our family pics back and couldn't believe how I looked...I knew I was 35-40 lbs heavier, I guess I just didn't "see it" so much until these photos. So the next day, Fri. April 18th, I went to the Y and worked out for 40 minutes.

The first month I probably averaged 3-4 nights a week for 40 minutes to an hour on cardio equipt. & I nearly completely stopped my evening snacking. It sucked!, but I lost 10 pounds in a month.

Month two I was going to the Y 4-5 nights a week for an hour or so...still trying to eat "better" during the day, and if I was starving at night, then I'd have something to snack on, just not the crap I really wanted...bannanas, glass of skim milk, fruit, cotage cheese, etc.

I also did a lot of bike riding with my kids this summer, went to parks and chased the rug-rats up and down slides, etc.

Now 19 weeks later (approx. 4-1/2 months) I've officially dropped 40 pounds, going from 211 lbs (at 6' tall) down to just over 170 lbs at weigh in today.

And since I've been having such success, my wife has been inspired to eat better and hit the Y a few times a week herself. And at last count she's lost 10 pounds in about a month and a half.

I wish I could say it's been pretty easy...but it hasn't. Mentally I'm pretty worn out always thinking about what I eat: not necessarily completely denying myself of everything that tastes good to me (I went out with the fam and had pizza & beer a couple weekends ago, at a wedding last weekend, etc.) but overall I push myself to make better choices (more fruits & veggies, less beer, sugars, gravy etc.) and try to force myself to go to the gym even if only for a half hour, even when I feel like sluggish [censored]. But I've kept it up, and in less than 5 months I've taken off what I put on over the last 5 years!

My clothes fit! My thighs don't rub together anymore! I feel more energetic! And I must say that I look pretty damn good :wink2:. (my wife agrees :tongue2:)

Anyway, for those who say it can't be done...YOU CAN DO IT!!! I did, and I'm creeping up towards 37 years old.

Whether it takes 3 months / six months / a year or more...just do it. You'll get there. You'll feel great! Your kids, grandkids, nieces or nephews will love the bike rides, days at the park, walks in a wagon...

Good luck.

Bringing this back from the dead.

Goal for the year started with trying to lose 20 pounds. Then I changed it to drop 30 as even dropping 20 pounds would not get me into a healthy BMI, whatever that means.

So far I am down 15ish pounds (the actual loss changes by the day). I've been hitting the gym 5 days a week, but more importantly I have been much more cognizant of my diet. It is amazing what not eating ice cream every night after a big dinner will do for you;-)

Oh, my biggest concern is to make sure I am keeping the muscle. Years ago I went into weight loss mode, but only did cardio and lost too much muscle. That is a mistake I don't want to make again.

It's crazy how when you cut sugar from your diet how when you accidentally ingest it how your body rejects it. I always buy a mineral water with my lunch, flavored but sugar free, I mistakenly grabbed a sugared one and I took one sip and spit it out.
