Just got back from the dentist, who was even better than the last one.
It seems I had been abscessed for about 7-8 months. Bad, I know. Worked it's way up into or around my sinuses, and had tried to dig a hole out through the side of my gums. Anyway, we got in there today, were in a chair immediately, and after a single xray, he went to work. As I sit here, the tooth is filled after a root canal, he was able to salvage it (HUGE news, particularly considering I almost pulled it out myself two days ago, had sterilized a pair of channel locks and everything (I know how stupid and dangerous that would have been, but sometimes you have to face certain realities and opt for the lesser of two evils)).
So that is outstanding. As I sit here, I'm still numb, but there's no pain. I'm on a week's worth of antibiotics to clear the infection, and I get to consider myself lucky that I didn't end up with sepsis and/or endocarditis because of it. Little question that unchecked pockets of spreading liquid toxicity is a bad thing. :)
Again, this simply would not have been possible without this drive, so once again, I owe this community more than I can fully understand, adequately express, or even properly reciprocate. I don't think I realized before how much of a nagging presence the pain and threat of the obvious infection played in the back of my head, I felt like I left the office with about 100 pounds removed from my shoulders.
Still more work to do, but this office is fantastic. They're right around the corner, and they just said to call whenever I'm having a 'good' enough day that I can make it over, and they'll try to squeeze me in. Compare that to the last place who told me not to bother calling again after we missed a second appointment (one where we ended up in the hospital instead while trying to get there), and I think I found a home.
So to give an unsolicited good word to an outstanding dentist, office, and support staff -- anyone who needs any sort of work done would do well to visit Dr. Bradley Blair at 1101 Norton Road, Galloway (614) 878-8303. The guy is a self-proclaimed 'rabid' Buckeye fan as well, and hopped on to the site after our appointment, so if you're reading this, thanks so much, HUGE relief to have this done, and I literally look forward to returning. If you register, let us know so we can give you some vBux for making those xrays free as your own contribution to my embarrassing cause. :)
The whole root canal and related work couldn't have taken more than an hour, and it was entirely uneventful and painless. He was attentive and quick, talked me through what he was doing and when, was pleasant and professional -- you literally can't ask for more from any health care provider.
Before anyone thinks I'm getting freebies for talking him up -- nope, lol, I'm just giddy that this is one less thing that could turn into a bigger disaster. I really didn't expect it to be salvageable, I mean, half of what was above the gum line had broken off and away. It's also nice to have one less thing causing pain.
So thanks again everyone, so much. And on that note, I'm going to go sleep for half a day to recover, amazing how hard getting around kicks my ass.
