Spring Fundraiser 2007 Discussion Thread

As many of you know Clarity wants to give a small percentage of the Spring fundraiser to a local charity like one of the local animal shelters. Clarity always talks about paying forward and when it comes to this site I think he has paid forward plenty. I have had many medical problems over the years but have always been forced to enough to have some type of government-funded insurance or private insurance. I would like to suggest two members of the BP community that at the present time Clarity take some of the money for the Spring fundraiser and use it to cover some of his medical expenses. I guess what I'm trying to say is instead of giving the money to something outside of the community I would like to see Clarity use some of the money for his own needs... at least at this time. I can tell by Clarity's posts that he has a lot of pride but he has given so much to us that I think for him to take the % of the Spring fund-raising for his own needs would make all of us feel better. Clarity, you have already paid forward plenty. Now it is time for us to pay forward because we don't always get that opportunity.

Well I wasn't going to mention it, but OK I donated. Anyone else who reads this should take the time to chip in. It feels great. Plus, you won't find a site like this anywhere, where you don't have to pay in the first place, so show a little gratitude....thanks Clarity! And LongWoodBuck!

I've been lazy, but, seriously, I plan on donating.

(Wow - I sound like every single one of my cheap-ass roommates that I had back in school.)

How you gonna donate when you can't find your pants (and thus your wallet)?

Come on, gang...toss in a couple bucks or some spare change to your home away from home.

In the past, the contest aspect of the fundraiser made for an entertaining time! In fact, quite a few donated items were used in a generated raffle. (I donated the "priceless" 'We Suck" U Of Fichigan papers.) I gave away all of the "day after" Dispatch editions, but I will offer an autographed Jim Lachey player card & send it to whoever has the fortitude (Hey, it's not a Troy, Eddie, or Archie, but it's a start!) to generate a raffle or contest for donations! Time will not allow me to organize it. However, I have no prob with allowing Clarity a percentage! ( BTW, Semper Fi!) Any one have a donation item available? I'd like to see us top the goal & extend the fundraiser as it's a long time until September!

Made my donation and the above post got me thinking about something additional we could maybe do.

Not wanting to cross any commercial lines or anything, I think you all know I'm not here for that, but we can get a sports related product really cheap if we could figure out a way to use it as a fundrasier.

The stuff is called EZ Towel, they have a site but I won't link it so no one thinks I'm pimping them. Outdoor types, golfers, RVers..lots of different people could use it. The bags retail for 9.99 we can get it by the case(120 bags) for $420 which is $3.50 a bag. I figure with the collective brainpower of BP we could find a way to make something of it.

Any interest let me know, if its more trouble than its worth no biggie just thought I'd mention it.

1. Money is easier to come by when you don't waste it on new pants.
2. Who carries a checkbook in a wallet?

My donation check is in the mail. Really! It is. Crap. Don't you hate it when the truth sounds just like a crappy excuse?

JaxBuck, as always nive avatar

As for these EZ Towels, do they allow you to print your own logo on the baggie, or are you stuck with their standard appearance? I ask as it seems you could get customized logos on towels, flags, magnets and the like from a number of different sources. The easiest to work with might be Extra Mile.

Either way, perhaps what is needed is for a few of the heavier hitting donors to pony up in say fall, and get enough funding together to buy a case of the preferred, and preferably customized, item(s) so they are ready for a fall or next year's Spring Campaign. Example, if only five to ten $50 to $100 donors put up the ante, the cost would be covered. Their magnets for instance are about 4.5-inches high, 6.75 across. At minimum you would have 500 of their GL-1171 football magnets or at best 1,000 of them for use as donor considerations in future fund-raisers.

I don't think they will customize the bag but I will check. The most money to be made for BP would come from retailing the individual bags so I was wondering if we could cast the nets far and wide and see how many retail shops, golf pro shops etc we could get people to let us sell these things in.

Go to their site and look at these things they are actually cool as hell, just pretty new so they aren't real well known. A guy showed them to me a while back on the golf course and I started looking into them.

As a point of reference it would only take us moving 4 cases of this stuff to reach the 3K in profit mark.

I have always felt bad about not contributing enough here so I would offer to put the money up front and coordinate all the shipping, just pay me back my cost whenever. All BPers would have to do is get orders for the bag's, tell me where to ship them then collect the $$ and send it on to the site.

I thought about putting this all in PM but reconsiderd so that everyone could see it and maybe it could spawn some ideas. Again, if this is too much trouble no biggie but it is a good way for the site to make some coin.
