Spring Football - 2005 (mega-merge)

Great updates Ginnandjuice, thanks a bunch. Roy Hall at FB puzzles me somewhat. I know that he carries the weight, but his height concerns me when he is trying to get leverage on an iso. block. I am a fan of shorter, bowling ball type fullbacks (Jamar Martin, Nicky Saulua ect).

At this point anything that Ginn does isn't a suprise to me, a guy like him only comes through once every 20 years. If he stays 4 years, and is healthy he could go down as one of the greatest ever to play football at OSU, ever. I love the fact that they may give him carries at TB, and some QB. He reminds me of that great athlete on a high school team that would play 2-3 positions and absolutely smoke your team no matter what he does, except Ginn is doing it against top flight college athletes. He'll probably do it in the NFL too, much like Deon Sanders did back in his hayday, except Ginn is modest.

As good as our offense sounds, I think our defense may be better. A.J. Hawk came back to OSU to win another title in my opinion, he just seems to be that type of competitor. He knew that we were going to have a special team I think. Schlegel will be out to prove that he is a 2nd-3rd round LB prospect, Carpenter will go in the late first round also. I think the intangibles of this LB crew (ie leadership, attitude and will to win) will carry this team to the Rose bowl. Pitcock has the chance to be an all American this year, he showed late in the season why he was so highly touted out of H.S. I think he'll have an amazing year. I also am excited about Patterson, he has the size to play at tackle and the quickness to play at end.

Wow, I've got to stop typing this team excites me way too much.......and it's only April. Can't wait until the spring game.

Pulled hamstrings take time to heal...but they can be played on. I played basketball and track with a slightly pulled hammy and it hurt but i was still able to play. Once school was over and i let it heal it took a couple of weeks till it didn't hurt anymore, but it still kind of pinches every now and then and they can be bothersome for a while.
I hope they let Holmes sit. I've lost runners for an entire season. Pulls come in varying degrees. When you get one where the back side of the leg looks as if someone slugged it, you're talking about 3 to 4 WEEKS minimum. IMO too many trainers tape it up and let the kid go back out, then you get into a cycle of injury, recovery, injury, recovery that seems to never end and the runner is never back to 100%

"I dont understand how pushing and shoving amongst teammmates is good"

Umm... this is football: that's how you play the game. Don't worry, they'll all be on the same side once we're playing the real games.

Great info from GinnandJuice!

Heisman candidate Troy Smith of course! Just look at the weapons any QB on this team has to work with! Not unlike all the weapons USC have had for their Heisman winning QBs. TGII will get Heisman votes the way Reggie Bush did.

I think Ted Gone will get more Heisman votes than Smith will. I would be surprised to see Smith be one of the finalists, as a Junior or a Senior. Of course, if he plays like he did against Michigan, then I can see him being a candidate. But I believe that that was not typical Troy Smith.

New to site

I'm new to this forum and still trying to find my way around. Anyway, me and my two boys are coming down from Cleveland so we probably won't be making the 6 AM thing but we'll be there as soon as we can. Count us in.

QB as I have said is Troy Smith. No doubt about it. I was and still am a Zwick fan/supporter but there is no question in my mind whose team this is. My blinders are off!!!

If Smith has the kind of year I think he will, he will be gone next year and the QB battle will be between Schoenhoft, Boeckman, and Zwick. Smith will not turn the NFL away if given the opportunity. Consider this year as his audition for the NFL because IMO he is gone next year.

I talked to Zwick a few months ago and there is no chance he transfers out of here. He is not the type to give up and I have to commend him for that.

As much as I like to hear Ginn burning Hawk, Youbouty, etc. I was kinda hoping that atleast Youbouty and company could get to him, or atleast keep up. Ginn is ridiculous, but if he can be stopped just once by our corners, they those guys can stop anything.

Ginnandjuice, was Theodore burning them on almost every play? In previous pictures it looked like Ashton could keep up with Ginn for a little bit.

In an unrelated note, I was walking out of class and I thought the sun was eclipsed cause it got dark all of a sudden. But instead I was caught under the shadow of Rehring. God, he's huge. He got a boyish face though, which is kinda funny...no wonder his teammates call him "baby huey."

IMO, Youbouty did a good job on Ginn and yes bottled him up from time to time. Not sure if it was designed or not but he did just the same. He did real well jamming him at the line a few times.

I will put it this way, if TGII wants to get open, he is going to open no matter who is covering him. I do not want to make it sound like TGII had his way the whole time, but he is a gifted athlete who knows what he wants and where he is going. Our defense is excellent....TGII is excellent as well. Thank god in heaven he is on our side!!!!

One more thing, you are right about Rehring LOL

I don't think we know exactly what "typical Troy Smith" is yet...
I know that I certainly don't know what "typical Troy Smith" is. I would love for it to be Troy Smith vs. Michigan. He was AWESOME! But I have trouble believing that we will see that week in and week out. Until we know more, I don't think we can call him a Heisman contender.

I guess that, to be fair, I ought not consider Teddy Gone a potential Heisman contender, either.

It sounds like you have a lot more insider knowledge than I do. Hell, this message board provides me with what I know, so if you're giving the news to the message board.. you get the idea. Anyway, I have trouble believing that Smith will go pro after one more year. I believe that given the opportunity, he would go pro, but I don't think he'll be given the opportunity. He's the best QB on the team, I believe, but I don't think he's good enough to go pro.

I would love it if he showed us fans this year that he can go pro.

I also don't believe that Teddy Gone will stay 4 years. He may believe he will, but I don't believe he will.

Finally, someone said that the Bucks won't miss this generation of LBs, as the next one is just as good. If that's correct, I'm amazed. Those guys are incredible, I actually find it hard to believe that the next guys are just as good.

Good post, though. Keep 'em coming!

Speed! Speed! Everywhere, Speed!

Youboty's star is on the rise. He should get some All American mention this year!

Our receivers are helping the DBs get even better! And vice, versa! Was Everett participating in non-contact only?

Running backs are coming on! Big help for the offense!

Pass rush is showing improvement! Very good sign!
Dukes is back and making a case for playing time!

Speed! Speed! Speed, everywhere!
