Spring Football - 2005 (mega-merge)

As a Smith fan, the thing that excites me about this game is that I think Smith has a chance to end the QB debate somewhat. His previous performance was unreal against UM, and IMO should be the leader of this team for that reason.

Zwick has Ginn, Dukes and Hall (vs. Gonzo & Lyons for Smith, not as lethal... holmes is injured and probably will be a non factor)...

Unlike what we won't see out of Teddy (the trick plays and such will be saved for Texas)... I think we should get a good taste of Smith in this game. He won't be able to do quite as much out of the spread formation since they don't have quite as many capable receivers as the normal OSU team does (obviously that's what happens when you split up the team). But his ability to create things with his feet both scrambling for yards and to buy time will be quite evident in this game IMO.

Zwick has to outperform Smith if he wants to win this game. I don't care about the stat sheet (as Zwick got credit during the jersey scrimmage for a TD whcih Teddy made out of nothing... that play should not have gone for a score if he was mortal), its who does a better job adjusting to the defense and making things happen. Zwick has a lot more to prove here IMO.

Most of you know this, but I'll bring it up anyway.

WATCH THE OPEN CONTAINERS!!!!

I know its only the Spring Game, but Quaker Oats Bitch will likely have her booze squad goons on patrol. I guess she's worried that we'll lose and start turning over cars and shit.

I'll see all of you Saturday Morning!!! :groove:

Current WBNS forecast for Saturday:

Hi 50 F
Lo 43 F
Mostly cloudy skies. Showers likely

Let's hope that the rain holds off for the gane and/or we get there early enough to get seats in B deck.

You would think that Woody would have some influence over "the guy" that controls the weather (old jokes, but still funny) :

After Bo Schembechler dies and enters the pearly gates, God takes him on a tour. He shows Bo a little two-bedroom house with a faded Michigan Wolverines banner hanging from the front porch. "This is your house, coach. Most people don't get their own houses up here, " God says. Bo looks at the house, then turns around and looks at the one sitting on top of the hill. It is a huge three-story brick mansion with white marble columns and little patios under all of the windows. Buckeyes flags line both sides of the sidewalk and a huge "GO BUCKS" banner hangs between the marble columns while the OSU fight song blares from hidden speakers.
"Thank you for the house, God. But let me ask you a question. I get this little two-bedroom house with a faded banner, and Woody Hayes gets a mansion with new Ohio State Buckeyes banners and flags flying all over the place.
"Why is that?" God looks at him seriously for a moment. "That's not Woody's house", God says. "That's mine."

A guy dies and goes to heaven. There he is met by St. Peter. St. Peter welcomes him to heaven and shows him around. The guy is amazed at what is in heaven. The last place St. Peter takes the guy is to this football game. It is in a horseshoe shaped stadium. As they are watching the game the man notices a tubby man with a white shirt, black tie, and black hat running up and down the sideline ranting and raving.

The man looks at St. Peter and asks, "Who is that madman?"

St. Peter answers, "Oh, that's God. But he thinks he's Woody Hayes"yes

Yesterday on the Fan, one of the seniors that selected Jay Richardson as the first DL (ahead of Pitcock) said they did it to counter Smith's speed at the QB position: the speedy J-Rich is best able to contain him from the end position.

I think last year Richardson and Frost were the ends that played against Smith and seemed to be able to track him down. If the Scarlet DL can keep him in the pocket Smith won't be as effective as he was in the SCum game. I would make it Carps personal job to make sure Troy doesn't rush for any yards. Gray's weak at pass protection from the OT's so the ends should be able to get a good rush. They just better be sure to wrap Smith up when they get to him. He would have taken some nasty shots last year if they had been allowed to hit him. He also would have been able to run it a couple times. Smith did get stuffed at the end of the game last year when he put the white jersey on.

The biggest problem for Scarlet might be the weather. If it's cold and rainy Gray's ground game might work better. Scarlet is built to set the field on fire through the air. They have good speed so they should be able to run outside pretty well. A wet track is going to make Ginn harder to catch than a greased pig, but that might go the same for Smith.

sounds like we have more burgers and dogs than grills. don't take it as a bad sign when the guy wearing the "Hello my name is: BuckeyeNation27" is laughing at everybody holding hot dog packages with no grills in sight :p
