Spring Football - 2005 (mega-merge)

I appreciate the support, Alan, but I'm 90% sure he was kidding.

I did post very urgent info twice in the last day with errors and am willing to take a jab in good humor...

Breaking news here at Sportscenter: Ohio State Maurice Clarett Maurice Clarett Maurice Clarett spectators paying Ted Ginn 5 dollars at Spring Game. How will they focus during this cataclysmic off the field turmoil. Maurice Clarett.

I already have my tix, but unless the forecast changes dramatically my son and I are staying home. Everyone might want to edit their posts and reduce their predictions by 2.

BTW - Any posts edited after the closing date for the event will be considered null (having no legal or binding force) and void (containing nothing).

Did I read that wrong, or was Jay Richardson taken before Pitcock? If so, JR must be having a monster spring!!! And that's exactly what this D needs - a monster pass-rusher to supplement Kudla.

I think Pitcock is listed as hurt. That may be the reason.

Here’s my analysis:

Scarlet:
I'd like to see Scarlet come out in shotgun with Dukes and Hall wide, Hamby at TE and shotGinn on both sides with Haw in the tight slot on the other side. JZ and TB should be able to do whatever they want for as long as Ginn plays. When Ginn isn't in. Go with Haw and Stan White in the backfield and try to establish the run with some play action passing. Haw, and White can catch out of the backfield. Add Hamby, Dukes, and Hall to that group and you still have good passing threats. Scarlet is soft at corner so they will have to get a good pass rush. They have good safeties so they should be able to play nickel if it’s legal. Bigger LB’s might have a hard time covering Smith. Carp has to be big on QB runs.

Gray:
Gray has to go 2 backs with Pittman and Schnittker/Johnson and try to establish the run. Put in some boots for Smith to get him outside the pocket. I don't think Gonzo, Lyons, and Frost are going to be able to give the downfield threat like Scarlet has. Gray has to be able to run the ball either with Pittman or Smith. Smith is best running out of the spread shotgun and Gray doesn't have the players for that. Gray is also going to have some issues with pass protection mainly off of the edges, but they should be good at run blocking. Smith has to have a Scum like performance for Gray to have a chance, but he doesn’t have Ginn on his team this time. If Gray doesn’t rush for at least 150 as a team Scarlet runs away with it. Gray has good corners so they should be able to cover, but Scarlet has a lot of speed.

Remember last year, Smith was the top pick and then they found out he wasn't allowed to run. :( Messed up the whole thing. But I think this year he'll be more of a complete QB with his ability to find receivers to be just as good as his ability to juke safeties out of their jocks
