Sports idols growing up (Mega-Merge)

as bad as they always were I loved the Tribe growing up... Thorton is another good one. How about Pat Tabler, Tony Bernazard and Brett Butler :). We used to go down to the stadium and pay $5 to get in and then sit anywhere

Ah, yes, I remember those days. Mel Hall was there for a few years as well, and what about when Joel Skinner was actually the catcher?

Someone I didn't mention and should have - Keith Hernandez. I played first base growing up, through little league and high school, and I still have my first baseman's glove with his name on it. He is the only player I followed back then that wasn't an Indian...and then he became an Indian.

Some other blasts from the past - Felix Fermin, Tom Candiotti, Bud Black, John Farrell, Greg Swindell, Doug Jones.

From about 1995-1997-ish, I lived in Chicago, so you know what that meant....everybody loved MJ. But at that time I wasn't really into sports and I didn't really have a "idol". Right now, I don't have a idol either. I guess I had a bad childhood when I grew up.

Pete Rose, Rex Kern, Randy Gradishar. Oscar Robertson

All of my favorites in their particular field. But my all-time idol was Woody Hayes. Read his books, watched his documentaries, was disappointed with the way he left the game. But, as time goes by, I think that people are realizing what this man stood for. He had his warts, but he truly cared about people.
