Seeing the era a lot of you guys collected...One of the funnier cards that came out during that period was the Billy Ripken "[censored] face" card..Hilarious

Oh that brings back some memories...LOL! I think I had about 5 of those...and then they came out with a couple corrected versions (one of which was pretty rare).

I have crate loads of cards in my collection. But whats funny are the two big books with all the pages of "special" cards. You know, the ones that I thought would be worth millions some day. I just went through them not long ago...that was a good laugh. Anyone in the market for a Cory Snyder Donruss Rated Rookie card?

They might not be worth squat now...but I do remember having an awful lot of fun collecting. Good memories with the neighbor kids and also with my dad when we'd go to card shows. The crappy part now is that cards are too expensive for kids to collect. My kid bought a pack the other day at Walmart for $2.98 and I think there were only 5 cards inside! I remember cards being a quarter and that was the same as a candy bar. So as kids if we went to the store with my mom, she would give us the choice between a pack of cards or a candy bar! Oh, the memories! :)

I had a wall of shoe boxes full of everything. My brother gave me a baseball shaped carrying case. I got offered more for the case than the three Ricky Henderson rookie cards I was wanting to trade. I moved to Georgia...left my cards in my room at my moms...came home to find them de-fucking-stroyed. Cards in piles, ripped in half. Sister had a party at my moms. Seemed someone didn't think to highly of me. If I could narrow that down to twenty people, I'd beat all of them down on principle.

This card style is the first one I remember seeing. 1986, I think. I was so proud of my Eric Davis card.

There was nothing I enjoyed more than getting a box of wax packs, ripping every pack open and sorting by every possible fact imaginable. League-Division-Team, position, birthday, alphabetical. Then inventorying what I got, including the "value" from the most recent Beckett's. I'm half tempted to go to ebay and find a box of wax packs from the late 80's just to do it again.

I still have my cards down in the basement. Plus some of my dad's.

I think I have the exact same thing somewhere in my basement right now. I'll see if I can find it when I get home tonight.

It has three snaps for the lid and a little handle. It also came with a sticker for each team, which on mine, were seperated by leauge. The dude at the card shop was amazed.

I used to throw out every non-Reds player. This explains my abundance of Nick Esasky cards.

I once traded three Danny Tartabull's for eight Larkin Rookies. I also traded some cards to a kid when I was five. I remember getting yelled at for coming home with KMart cards. They were all Bench or Rose. I thought I had made the deal of the Century.

I remember ripping open packs of '87 Topps cards...every other pack seemed to have either Tekulve, Greg Gagne or Pat Corrales in it.

I used to dedicate myself to stockpiling particular players. I went through phases of Darryl Strawberry (I think I had 30+ of his '87 Fleer at one point...filled up over 4 of those 3 X 3 pages), Kirby Puckett, Mike Greenwell, Cory Snyder () and Junior.

No, no, no...Luis Medina...or "Bam Bam" Meulens. I remember stockpiling Gregg Jefferies rookie cards too. He was a can't miss.

Sorta like the post that kicked off this thread, I went through my box of "commons" a number of years ago.... found it in my parents attic ... anyway... Randy Johnson rookies galore... etc.. That was fun... "This guy? Who's this guy?"

Only to find out later he was a great one.

I still have a few Manny Rated Rookies. Donruss maybe. He had a kick ass jheri curl.

Edit: It isn't a rated rookie, just his draft pick card.

Also, this is probably the best baseball card ever.

Started collecting in the 80s. My prize possession is a Magic-Bird-Julius card that is Magic's and Bird's rookie card. I also have my dad's collection which is rather small. Best one he has is '57 Koufax. I still have a tremendous amount of cards and comics. The lone regret I have is that I never took a Wayne Gretzky Oilers doll off of a collector for $60. I'm under the impression the thing would be worth a pretty penny today.

I also still have my Transformers. Optimus is still in his box (yes, it's been opened).

Kmart cards were waaay fucking better than Hills cards.
