For the last time...... Ginn WILL NOT be playing defense on Saturday. He hasn't done it yet and he's not gonna start against (possibly) the best receiving corps in the country. (there Mili, I took care of it for ya)
You probably should have prefaced that statement with "Listen, you dumb fuckburger"

Edwards won't get the ball if we put pressure on Henne. If Henne has time in the pocket...we are screwed. He's gonna make completions. We need to sack his ass again and again and again. BLITZ THE FUCKER!!!! Henne hasn't even played a snap against OSU yet, and I already hate him!

And Fox is going to play. He's not hurt bad enough to stay out. It's scUM...he's playing...and dammit I want him to play because him and Youboty out there are far better than any freshman no matter how hyped he is.

It sounds like Whitner and Salley will be good to go. The way I see it, UM WILL make big plays. That is a given. Edwards WILL have a big time catch, he's too good to stop all day long.

If Whitner and Salley go down, here's is what i think could work (and this is only if Ginn has been getting reps in practice).

Edwards was containable when he was bumped on the line and a corner was rolled over to double up on him (NW game). The problem in that game is that Breaston ran wild. Breaston's a dangerous player, but I have a hard time seeing him losing Ginn, and even if he did Ginn would catch him a second later.

If they go three wide I'd rather see Everett and Whitner in at safety, then stick Youbouty-Edwards Ginn-Breaston and Fox-Avant. Would anyone here rather see Underwood play here?

I don't know that its a smart idea, and I haven't seen Ginn in practice (if he's even practiced at defense at all).

Plus if he gets his hands on the ball there's a good chance its going back for a score.

Speed isn't all it takes to keep up with a WR. Ginn may not have the technique...and can he tackle? Who cares if he can keep up with him if he can't tackle. That was on thing that impressed me with Gamble was his ability to tackle. Ginn came out of HS as a DB recruit...but the key to a good coach is putting talent in the right place. Just like we did with Cie Grant, and like we did with Gamble. I trust Tressel will do what's best for the team here. Tressel isn't the type of guy that's just going to put Ginn in there for the hell of it. Whoever is in our secondary will be the guys that give us the best chance to win.

I agree with a lot of the things people are saying about why Ginn isn't going to play D, but there's also another reason that I don't think has been mentioned much (if at all).

The big thing about Gamble at first is that he only played man...so when you saw him in the game, you knew quite a bit about the coverage scheme Ohio State was going to play.

Covering zone not only takes athletic talent, but a lot of teamwork--which Ginn hasn't had as much of, because he's been on offense.

Michigan plays a freshman quarterback. I think we need to jump in and out of multiple coverage schemes (man and a number of zones, both with and without blitzing) to confuse him. That would also include coming to the line and making a defensive audible to a new coverage scheme if necessary. I'm not sure if Ginn is ready for that yet, given the lack of defensive practice.

Right! Since Youboty has proven to be a stud, that leaves Dustin Fox as the other must-have corner for the game, since he's the one that would call any defensive plays for the secondary. I think this season has shown how valuable Fox is. Fox missed the Northwestern and Wisconsin games completely, was not 100% for Iowa, and only played special teams against Purdue. I think the results of those games (compounded with Youboty's appearances) demonstrates who our best two corners are, and which ones know what their assignments are, such as blitzing QBs, not RBs on play-action passes. :roll1:

Tressel has mentioned on his call-in show that if there were substantial injuries, the first WR who moves to a CB spot is actually Lyons, not Ginn. With Jamario O'Neal coming in next year and assuming Youboty is here for two, followed by how important Ginn has proven to be at the WR position, I question whether Ginn will see the field at DB even next year outside of man-to-man coverage. Ginn may have been a stud and a coaches' son in high school, but as a 170 pound freshman he's a little light to be taking on FBs or dragging down 230 pound RBs - he needs to add the freshman 15 this offseason.

Ok guys I was think'n something up and tell me what you think?

Ej gets the start at Corner back and is paired up with Edwards (with Fox as a saftey over top on him also).

then the Secondary adjusts accordinly......

This will never happen, but its a fact that Fox has said he's a saftey and not a corner (thats where he'll play in the NFL)

Even someone like Chris can get caught up in the excitement of a player. Besides, the initial post in this thread said, "Buddy of mine said...". We don't know exactly what Speils was calling for. Besides, my reply was directed more towards those who wholeheartedly agree with Ginn being tossed into the fire and expecting him to come out unsinged...

I think IF and thats a big if, IF they were to use Ginn on Defense you do so when they go to the nickel and you tell Ginn where ever Edwards goes, YOU GO. You cover him like a condom

martinss.....i like your posts...you know your shit.....

so i ask this....if salley and whitner are unable to go....

what do you think....

in that case i would like to see teddy ballgame line up as opposed to aj trying to man up on a split end....

what do you think....
why thank yee sir. :)

the first thing i would do is cry =P. well, i stated during the first half of the purdue game ginn should see time on d. at this point it is a lot more dangerous. but nothing is scarier than putting a lb on a wr. thats the thing offensive coordinators wet dreams are made of. if it comes to that... you have to play him on d. personally i would try to split time early in the game between underwood and ginn to see how he holds up. you just have to be careful about how many plays you put the kid in on. just because gamble could do 130 plays per game doesn't mean everyone can.

currently he plays offense, kickoff return (id pull him off this btw), and punt return. i think he can make just as much impact on d as he does on offense. but he isn't going to make any impact on the sidelines so cramped up he can't walk.

i have to believe fox will be back and i think salley will as well. regardless of his mistakes against purdue, underwood almost has to be the #3 guy. our offense is almost completely designed around ginn at this point. so you can't loose him on offense no matter how weak we are in the secondary. but that doesn't mean we can't use him in the right situations.

lets face it, we have nothing to loose here.
