no, fox is not a true to form lock down corner. but you don't have to be such a thing to be a successful cb. to not be sold on his abilities is at this point is a little narrow minded. secondly, the affect he has on the secondaries confidence is undeniable. our secondary is 10 times better with him on the field than without. trust me, we are going to need him in a big way against michigan.

while i wouldn't mind seeing ginn play cb ala gamble i seriously doubt it at this stage in the game. while he has experience in highschool and was brought in as a cb. there is a big difference between practice and games. expecially "the game". personally i think that is a little to much to put on a young kids shoulders. if we wanted him to play cb against michigan we should have put him in the game against purdue. you plug him into a situation like this and you are asking for him to fail.

so i ask this....if salley and whitner are unable to go....

what do you think....

in that case i would like to see teddy ballgame line up as opposed to aj trying to man up on a split end....

what do you think....

I have no doubt that Teddy has enough raw athletic ability to go in and play corner with reasonable success. The problem is going to be consistency. With all his inexperience we would see some flaws in technique that can be exploited by such high level recievers. Also, we would almost certainly see a big play on him because of this inexperience. We saw how raw Gamble was when he bit on the Lee Evans double move against Wisky. Ginn is even more raw than Gamble was when he first started, and this is not the situation (pressure of scUM game) nor the team (WR talent) to get him exploited and see his confidence get shot by relying on him too much. I want to see him in Nickel or Dime at the very most.

Continued....

Snyder needs to scrap that zone because either our DBs dont get it or we just dont have the talent back there.

They have not been lit up too bad this season but they have given up many third and longs so far.

fox is the number two cb on the team.....as i have said since the spring game of 03....ashton will be a stud....

well yobouty is already a stud and fox is a great compliment on the other side.....

the key is the dropoff from fox to underwood.....that is why fox is soooo important....

ej just cant do it.....so that leaves salley, mitchell, whitner, everett and jacobs to pick up the slack....

if salley and whitner cant go.....i like ginn to man up in nickle......

No one has said, or even implied, that. He is, however, the best we have right now...
I'm with you Mili. I'd take 4 Fox's in our secondary anyday. Fox doesn't give up the big play. He knows that if he keeps the ball in front of him and is a sure tackler, the other team is likely to make a big mistake sometime down the field. One big play is ofter worse than 20 short throws.

...especially this week. Consistency is the key, and Fox has always been consistent.

Whats the problem with E.J.? I heard he was unbelievable in the spring and he has done nothing but look overmatched all year long! He has been the biggest dissapointment on the team (With Roy Hall, Justin Zwick not far behind). I'd like to hear from Grad on what he's seen with E.J. and what he's doing wrong. From my observations, he doesn't look back at the ball hardly ever and when he's in a short field, he doesn't keep an eye on the reciever running through his zone.

Ha ha, a team captain, two time All Big Ten award winner, team leader in solo tackles, 40+ starts, numerous INTs (including one in the Fiesta Bowl), FG blocks, tackles for loss, pass break-ups. Over 200 tackles in his career.

Yeah, he sucks!

And the way he got burned last year in the Wisconsin and Michigan games ... oh wait, that was that other cornerback.

Dustin has only been one of the best open field tacklers in the history of the scarlet and gray, and has never gotten into trouble off the field. He came in as a safety and had to move to corner in an emergency against Northwestern in 2001 as a true freshman, and he's never given up the position since. I can't imagine what else you want him to do?!

oiler....if you want me to put it as simple as can be....the difference between ej and ashton is this...

instincts.....one has it...the other doesnt.....it was obvious at the 03 spring game when yobouty was a frosh.....that kid just has it.....

I'm less worried about all these fully capable OSU players than I am of the team playing a soft zone, and all those short under routes against these very good WR's on M$%&gan team. I pray they play a more agressive game this saturday. Debate all ya want about how good or bad this and that player is but in the end they are all Buckeyes and deserve the respect cheers of the fans come this Saturday!!
