You may be confusing arrogance with confidence. I watched Matt during his high school career at Mater Dei and he has always been a competitive and confident youngster, never arrogant.
It is interesting that you are not comfortable with Matt Barkley enjoying football and having fun playing the game. Maybe it?s not universal in CF but at USC our players and coaches truly enjoy playing the game, it is fun, and they are thoroughly prepared to do it exceptionally well.
I remember during my years at USC watching coach John McKay on the sidelines with only minutes or even seconds left on the clock, the outcome of the game on-the-line and he would be smiling while working with the quarterback during a timeout. Asked later by reporters why it looked like they were enjoying themselves and having fun he said it was because they were. John McKay loved the game, his players loved the game and they had the most fun when it was all on the line with time running out. Coach PC has very successfully repackaged this concept for the 21st century.
It is sad that some unfortunates fail to grasp this concept. Matt Barkley and the entire team will be well prepared and confident this Saturday as they always are and they will have fun playing a game they love. We know that if we do what we are capable of doing we have a great chance for another victory. You will have a great contest with us on Saturday that will be long remembered by all CF fans! Have fun and enjoy!
Fight On!
