I can't wait to watch Justin Boren. I hope Mike Adams finally 'turns the page'.

Comments like this baffle me. Mike Adams is a sophomore this year. He came back from an injury last year. Judging by the above comment you'd think he's a 5th year senior that failed to live up to his potential.

Now back to the USC vs. Ohio State matchup.

I'm not as baffled as you. Reports out of practice were that he had been playing soft and needed to get nastier. I don't think 'turning the page' should be limited to 5th year seniors. I hope that Mike asserts himself at LT by the time Southern Cal comes to town.

They aren't a three-and-out type of defense that we had in '02. You can always drive on them. That's what I meant.
Well, we dont really know how they are going to be this year. But now I know what you were talking about. I think this defense is gonna surprise some people this year.

Disagree with this completely. If USC is foolish enough to play man coverage enough where Mays matched on a slot is a big matchup, then Ohio State has already won a key battle.

They want to play Cover 1? Ok, let's call 4 verticals and let TP run past their linebackers all night.

completely agree, playing man would be a huge mistake for USC to make; we don't have a proven WR or TE threat that would require mays to do a one on one. if anything, they'll probably try to have mays come up and be a spy on TP and hope he doesn't start hitting crossing patterns.

a big advantage for us this year is that USC will be taking a big risk by playing agressive defense and might be forced to be reactionary rather than what they want to do, which is to blitz TP all night. i kind of feel the same way about this game as i did about the second texas game: the other team's defense will be so concerned with what our QB might do with his feet that we'll nickel and dime em to death in the slot (forcing them into the Nickel and Dime, lol). i got banned from a texas messageboard for repeatedly saying gonzo was going to burn them, and we all know how that turned out.

i wouldn't be surprised if we saw something similar from sanzenbacher

Mandel rates this as the top early non-conference matchup.

SI.com

Here are the 10 best non-conference matchups over the season's first three weeks:
1. USC at Ohio State (Sept. 12)

Yes, last year's blowout at the Coliseum proved anticlimactic, and yes, both teams lost a bunch of big names from the past few years. But these two tradition-laden programs rarely have trouble reloading and will both be ranked in the top 10 yet again.

The Buckeyes should stand a better chance than last year, what with sophomore QB Terrelle Pryor's development (he alternated with Todd Boeckman in last year's matchup) and the fact USC will be relying on an untested signal-caller, most likely third-year sophomore Aaron Corp. Then again, the latter may not matter, given the Trojans' last three QBs -- Matt Leinart (at Auburn), John David Booty (at Arkansas) and Mark Sanchez (at Virginia) -- all routed BCS-conference foes in their first career road starts.

Cont'd ...

so what does this make, four out of the last five years that Ohio State has been involved in the premiere out of conference match up? not too shabby

speaking of that, I miss Texas fans, their internet presence and fanaticism for their team (one of the few fan bases that rivals the Buckeye faithful in my opinion) made the offseason at least marginally more bearable and entertaining, USC fans have really dropped the ball in that regard, color me as unimpressed

in their defense though, I imagine 3/4 of their fan base consists of bandwagon jumpers who don't know shit about college football, so I don't really mind too much that they aren't showing up in large numbers

I was just about to mention that on this thread. This thread is moving far slower than I expected it to go. It seems like the threads for the 05 and 06 games grew at a rate of ten pages per day.

I think this thread has about 1/5 of the posts the '06 UT-tOSU game had at this point. USC fans just aren't as passionate as a whole as UT and tOSU fans are. Not saying they don't have diehards, but just not nearly the number that the Horns and Bucks do.

I totally agree, hell, most the USC fans that I know can't even tell me the last USC Coach, which makes me think that they are only fans during the Pete Carroll era. The only argument I can get out of them is "Bucks suck", great argument. It's time to silence these fools on September 12th!!

Also, please if anyone knows where I can get the best tickets to the game (at least 4), please PM me with details on where I can get them!!!

The "Girl of the Page" bit certainly didn't hurt that. :groove2:

The season ticket holders we sat next to last year put it best: "Most of the folks in this section are usually sitting on the beach somewhere in Malibu when their blackberry reminds them they have tickets. 'Oh Shit, the game's in 20 minutes? We gotta go!'"

I can't blame them though. There are plenty of other things to do in LA on a Saturday afternoon. It isn't as big of a part of the culture as it is in the Midwest.
