How did you guys not have an identity at QB last year? A major theme last year was USC breaking in a new QB versus OSU with a first-team all-Big10 QB.

Ummmm, you're joking, right? Did you watch the OSU/USC game? Granted, it wasn't the greatest game, but I at least assumed you watched it. Ohio State was changing QB's mid-drive!!!

The "major theme" you mention was the PRE-season theme. Game week was all about "which QB will play for the Buckeyes" and the overwhelming topic of "Will Beanie play?"

DE Everson Griffen and LB Jordan Campbell were cited for making too much noise in Massachusetts on the 4th of July.

They were NOT arrested or charged with a crime, it's similar to a speeding ticket, but it's for too much noise.

Speculation on my part, but perhaps it was their fireworks making too much noise, not themselves.

I thought the same thing circa 2006...

Don't get me wrong, it is a distinct possibility.....you can put a theoretical butt-whipping on them. I just think the odds are not good. But then, I did not foresee Bama putting the wood to us by 28 (it wasn't really that close) in 2005.

Boeckman was your clear-cut starter. Pryor was brought in to offer a different dimension to the game, not (initially) because OSU was trying to figure out what QB to use. Going into the game it was pretty clear. Once Boeckman got roughed up, that all changed, but there was no lack of confidence in Boeckman going in. Whatever Pryor added was supposed to be frosting.

I call for a 2 game suspension.

Ok, SJSU and Notre Dame.

I think Pryor played a lot more in the 1st half against USC than any of us expected. Yeah Boeckman was the starter, but I don't think it was as clear cut as they made it seem to the public as evidenced by the fact Boeckman never started another game. You don't want to get the media talking about a QB controversy going into a game that big and create another distraction. Boeckman didn't exactly play well the first two games of the year leading up to USC against two far inferior opponents either.

Ok, SJSU and Notre Dame.

Apparently the game you missed (understandably) was the previous game against Ohio U.

The Buckeyes played worse in that game than they played in the Colliseum. They had a hard time keeping the Bobcats off of Boeckman. It was clear to everyone who was there that Boeckman was in for a long day in L.A.

You're right that we didn't expect him to get pulled. Until then, JT had a history of keeping starters in too long. But as of the Ohio U. game it was very clear that Boeckman wasn't going to have a successful 2008 behind that offensive line. If the moderators hadn't deleted them you would find the thread for that game riddled with posts to that effect.

I did see that game. Pryor didn't get in until late in that game. Boeckman was still the guy

Ya don't say? Couple things because of that. JT doesn't just toss in true freshmen (albit, talented ones) he likes to have players with years under their belt and a grasp of the offense (which Beockman had) and that perhaps we were simply looking ahead or playing down to our competition (which all teams have a tendacy of)

So yes, Boeckman was the guy... but he wasn't "The" guy.

It had nothing to do with either QB. It was the O line.

That was a very weak O line on the field against a very good USC defense. Pryor began playing because he could escape (or try to escape) a fierce pass rush. The O line couldn't do anything against USC.

The offensive line has been under performing for years and the USC game last year was the first time I ever thought "These coaches don't know what to do right now."

Nothing against the coaches because I think they truly didn't realize how bad the O line was. When you run up against a more talented team you have to have heart and the O line last year had no heart.

Doesn't happen very often that Coach Tressel gets his pants pulled down. Happened against Iowa in 2004. Happened in 06 against Floride and it happened again last season against USC.
