Sounds like the D dominated the O in the USC spring game. Methomps, is that concerning considering how much experience you guys return on the OL or do you think it just had more to do with patchwork OL's going up against great DL talent?

Lots of injuries on the OL. The "second-team" OTs were eaten alive.

Please remember, they have two trophies in there case... Not too hot to even give friendly smack talk a team with double your BCS titles... :wink2:
I might agree with you, but since I am not a bcs fan, they dont mean much until they have a playoff where teams that actually deserve to be there get to play in them, whether its SC or not. By the way, it is just good natured smack talk, not trying to be negative.:)

Question to anyone with USC knowledge:

How is their DLine? Specifically their ends (aside from the guy who will apparently stab every tackle he goes against...)? When we're on offense, at the moment I'm most worried about our tackles, especially if their ends are more of the speed-rush guys (smaller, faster).

Everson Griffen is our speed guy on the weakside. Very highly touted coming out of HS in 07, he has been a disappointment before this spring due to attitude problems (getting beat out by Clay Matthews Jr last year). But this spring has been a whole new story, and he looks like the dominant player everyone evisioned.

On the strongside, Pete Carroll wanted to go with more size than speed. Thus, he converted DT Armond Armstead to DE. Armstead was quick and agile as a DT, but is more of a bigger DE. The move worked well in the spring, so it is permanent now.

Interior of the line is a little less settled. Averell Spicer has come a long way from being the #1 DE in 2005, to an afterthought for a while, to a solid contributor. He will likely start at DT. At NT will be either Christian Tupou or Jurrell Casey. All three players contributed last year; it's just a matter of seeing who can take things to another level this year.

Coming in this fall, one player who has a good chance to make a splash is 320lb Juco Hebron Fangupo. Star frosh DE Devon Kennard has elite speed, but he suffered a torn ACL his senior year and we don't know what to expect.

I'm looking forward to seeing how USC's new LBers attempt to contain Terrelle. Will they bring their safeties or zone blitz or what?

This LB crew is inexperienced, but talented. They are certainly much faster than last year's crew, especially Michael Morgan at SLB. I expect that Taylor Mays will be part of whatever plan SC has for dealing with Pryor.

Kalil got a lot of reps at LT this spring due to injuries, but he is going into the season as a backup at RT. He held his own, but didn't wow coaches the way Tyron Smith did.

How big is Tyron now? Easily the most ripped OL I've ever seen coming out of HS.

A brief look at USC's new coordinators.

CFN

18. Rocky Seto, USC (defensive coordinator) - Even as both of his coordinators headed north to Seattle, Pete Carroll maintained a degree of continuity in his staff by promoting from within. Seto has been with the Trojans since 1999, primarily concentrating on the back seven. He had a chance to join Steve Sarkisian at Washington, but opted to remain at his alma mater, despite the fact that Carroll will continue calling all of the defensive plays. More than anything else, the new gig provides an opportunity for Seto to raise his profile to a national level.

14. John Morton, USC (offensive coordinator) - Few schools provide a better launching pad for its coordinators than USC. Just look what?s happened in recent years to neophytes, like Lane Kiffin, Steve Sarkisian, and Nick Holt. The Trojans' passing game coordinator and receivers coach the last two years, he cut his coaching teeth as an assistant in the NFL for five years with three different teams. It should be noted that while Morton has the title, Jeremy Bates, recently with the Denver Broncos, will call plays and be the quarterbacks coach. Bates plans to coach from the field level, while Morton operates in the coaches' box.

 It's funny how jealous they are.

In L.A., there's more to life than spring football

Spring games at USC and UCLA drew crowds of 22,565 and approximately 12,000, respectively. Ohio State had a record-breaking turnout of 95,722 at its Scarlet and Gray game.

Spring football in Los Angeles has always meant one thing: Lakers basketball.

It's not that people didn't care about USC and UCLA playing final scrimmages at the Coliseum and Rose Bowl on Saturday -- most people probably didn't even know.

Hey, that's just . . . us.

Aaron Corp is the new (for now) quarterback at USC, while a Kevin -- Prince, not Craft! -- took snaps for UCLA's first unit.

Yet, at two of the roomiest sporting venues in America, it was so quiet you could have heard a yardstick drop.

USC, a program that has claimed two national titles this decade and boasts a coach who has gone 88-15 in eight years, unveiled its 2009 sneak-peek on a gorgeous, breezy, sun-splashed afternoon. Pete Carroll looked so cool he had to wear shades

...

In the South they say there are two sports: football and spring football.

In Los Angeles, we say there's football and a thing called a life. So, in relatively obscurity, our two teams tinkered in their workshops.

...

Carroll was standing at the 12-yard line, a few paces behind Barkley, when it was announced Sanchez had gone No. 5 to the New York Jets.

From the field, Carroll (or someone, um, with access to his password) immediately "tweeted" Sanchez congratulations -- "We're cheering for you here in the Coli!"

:roll1: I bet Pete was just tickled to death about Sanchez.

10,000,000 people in the city, but they were all at the beach. Fuck you L.A.

Continued shit talking...

Who is jealous? !0 million people, most of whom are from another state, so probably are fans of other schools. See buckeye clubs in socal, or notre dame clubs as well. Even a few tsun fans out there also.
Yes, it is a melting pot.
