South Bracket Discussion

I havent actually seen what time the game is during the day, but if it is an early game they could be sleep walking as they are coming from the left coast...Xavier has a very short trip to Lexington and a very tested PG in Lavender. That is why I like the X-men...

good point, that's def something to consider.

Don't look past Albany...They could give you UVA all they want...

UVA has been up and down for most of the year, they got the benefit of playing the weakest ACC schedule...

They also have 2 good scorers, but need someone to step up and put points on the board if they want to advance far...
Singletary and Reynolds should be enough to get past Albany. Should.

They might even be enough to beat Tennessee by themselves, if both of them are firing on all cylinders and we get the defense and rebounding that Cain and Lars are capable of giving us. Plus, Singletary's an underrated defender himself.

If we're to have any chance to advance further than that, we NEED for Adrian Joseph or Mamadi Diane to hit their jumpers. When they do that, we play very well and will give anyone a ride. No team can blanket three guys at once. When they don't.....that's when we lose to Miami and Wake.

I still think we are going to see a close game...

Also I would disagree that no team can blanket 3 guys...We have some very good defenders and there are at least a handful of teams in teh country that have 3 good defenders...

All this stuff about traveling across country is so entirely overrated. I don't see how it has an effect on 18-22 year olds. It's just a few hours on a plane, not a trip around the world. Something like that doesn't decide a game.

have you ever played a sport? its very easy to come out flat after a long trip, especially if you are playing in the morning.

Bingo, it happens all the time with teams going west or teams coming east...

You get jetlag and different time zones can really mess up you internal time clock...

CHICAGO ? Ohio State's to-do list has one major item left. And coach Thad Matta may have to cross off 'X' along the way.
The No. 1-ranked Buckeyes held the Big Ten tournament trophy Sunday at the United Center. An impressive 66-49 win over No. 3 Wisconsin was celebrated with confetti, net-cutting and pictures.

Oden, OSU have a good shot

Monday, March 12, 2007Doug Lesmerises
Plain Dealer Reporter
Chicago -- A high school hook shot was pointless. All Greg Oden needed was his body and a point guard to get him the ball.
"I was playing 6-2 centers," Oden said. "I just let Mike [Conley Jr.] go through the lane, and I backed my guy down to the basket and turned around and dunked it."
As Ohio State (30-3) and its 7-foot freshman center start the NCAA Tournament as the top men's basketball seed in the South Region against 16th-seeded Central Connecticut State (22-11) on Thursday in Lexington, Ky., Oden's ability to make that hook shot will give the No. 1 Buckeyes a very realistic shot at the Final Four. Not that the 285-pounder doesn't still back down defenders and dunk on them, but when he's also making a shot from 8 feet out, it makes getting to the basket that much easier.

XU well aware OSU on horizon
But first they must handle BYU, fend off selection critics
BY DUSTIN DOW | ENQUIRER STAFF WRITER

Justin Doellman said "you could hear a pin drop" at Sean Miller's house Sunday night while Xavier waited about 45 excruciating minutes for its name to be called as one of the NCAA Tournament teams.
When it finally happened, everyone in the room realized immediately the magnitude of where the Selection Committee placed Xavier in the 65-team bracket.
The No. 9 seed Musketeers (24-8) need only to beat No. 8 seed Brigham Young in Lexington Thursday to potentially force a second-round game against their former coach, Thad Matta and No. 1 seed Ohio State Saturday.

Scouting report on Xavier
BY DUSTIN DOW | [email protected]

1x1.gif

THE PLAYER XAVIER WILL TURN TO
Drew Lavender. He has become the most important Xavier point guard since Lionel Chalmers. As good of a scorer as he is, Lavender is at his best when he's changing direction on dribble drives and using quick passes to set up teammates for layups or open 3s.
Lavender relishes one-on-one matchups with opposing guards. That usually works out in Xavier's favor, because Lavender's range forces the defense to stretch, which eases the pressure on XU's other four.

Xavier, OSU in same bracket
ASSOCIATED PRESS - 03.12.2007
CINCINNATI ? Xavier is bracket buddies with the coach who led the Musketeers to their best moment in the NCAA tournament.
The Atlantic 10 regular-season champions had a few nervous moments Sunday before learning they were a No. 9 seed. Xavier will play a first-round game Thursday against Brigham Young at Rupp Arena in Lexington, Ky.
Without an automatic berth, the Musketeers (24-8) weren?t sure they would make the 65-team field. When the first three regions were announced and their name hadn?t been called, the Musketeers started worrying.
?Watching commercial after commercial, region after region go by, that was tough,? guard Stanley Burrell said.
?It was real quiet,? forward Justin Doellman said. ?We were definitely nervous. You could hear a pin drop.?
Relief washed over them when they saw they?d play Brigham Young for the third time in school history. The Musketeers played BYU twice in the 1960s, losing both times.
