So... what's up with the new advertising?

I've been redirected twice in the last 20 minutes. I wasn't sure what I hit or why it happened the first time, but the second time, I had the mouse arrow on the scroll on the right. I wasn't hitting any ads the second time. It redirected me to some yellowpages site.

Next Deety is on, I suspect we'll be turning off one or more of the networks. After she posts here, if you could let us know if you're still seeing any sort of ad nonsense, we'd greatly appreciate it.

Without feedback from people, we have no way to track this stuff down. Obviously I have no problem with people blocking the ads, but I want to fix the issue, not just circumvent it. Moreover, if ads are the way to fund the site, then we need to also make sure they're being loaded (once they're reliably good).

The network is disabled; takes about 10 minutes for cache to clear. Thanks for the reports, everyone, as that's what made it possible to isolate the problem.

The network we were testing in the top banner is called OpenX Market. This is an ad auction operated as an optional service by OpenX, the software we're using for ad management.

Simply put, it is an auction allows us to set a floor above which advertisers can bid for ad space. By definition, this makes it more profitable than the other networks, because if it isn't, it doesn't kick in. I set the Spring Drive banner as the "ad" to outbid, and the minimum bid price lower than usual to test, which probably accounts for the sudden rash of stuff we don't want. So that plug has been pulled.

After discussion with Clarity, here's how we've decided to address the issue after this week's testing showed the weak spots.

Since determining what network is sending bad ads is the biggest obstacle to fixing issues, we're going to alternate networks for now. FSV's ads will always run (that's the EA NCAA and other sports-related banners), as we know those are quality-controlled. We'll swap the other two according to day of the week, so if there are further issues, we can respond quickly and accurately.

We won't be running the auction option until and unless quality control is addressed to our satisfaction. Since this appears to be the offending network, this should, hopefully, oh please oh please, take care of the issues with redirects.

Thanks so much for the patience, everyone.

Damn. What about the ones that when you scroll over, they play audio? I'd like it to be me, singing Don't Stop Believin' by Journey.

OMG Buckyle the sauce is warping your mind brother. Journey is so retro and kinda lame, but you liking county boys are off the chain anyway:biggrin:
